Let's just say that I hate the state of the industry, especially on consoles where there's not much freedom or substantially different options. This makes sense from a business perspective but from my perspective, this is just horrible.

I want to be optimistic.

They want it behind a pay wall so... yeah.

This is good. It means they will "give" away those games on their online program eventually.

Bet with Teeqoz for 2 weeks of avatar and sig control that Super Mario Odyssey would ship more than 7m on its first 2 months. The game shipped 9.07m, so I won

So does this mean that I'll have to get their crappy online service to be able to play classic games? I hope there's a way to purchase the games separately without them being tied to their online service.

Yes you can purchase all of these games, every single one of them, for just $20/year. Much much cheaper than the VC! And if you want to play online multiplayer you get that bundled in for free! ;p

Does anyone want to take a bet with me that Mario 64 wont be on the system in the next 5 years? I'm obviously saying that it will be on the console.

Why not check me out on youtube and help me on the way to 2k subs over at www.youtube.com/stormcloudlive

I see some people all angry saying they won't buy the Switch or play their Switch anymore because of no Virtual Console....do these people realize Switch is still gonna have NES/SNES/N64 games? It seems some people just read headlines and then react negatively.

Nintendo is just rebranding to an all-inclusive retro game setup under their paid Switch online subscription. I bet if Nintendo still called it the Virtual Console none of these people would be complaining and they'd be praising Nintendo for giving them the full Virtual Console for free bundled with paid online multiplayer, not to mention online play added to these retro games!

No matter how you cut it, this is a big upgrade to the Virtual Console model they've had the last two generations.

Because nothing empowers us as costumers as continously paying for something we'll never own...

lol no it doesnt.

They said they will be adding at least one new game for "free" every month. Since we already start out with 20 NES games, it won't take long for them to move to SNES, then to N64 and so on.

A subscription model would allow Nintendo to offer (access to) older games at a more competitive price, without devaluing their IP, as the consumer doesn’t own the game (or license) but instead is paying for access.
