Forums - Nintendo - Nintendo starts moving to a Wii-like “non-gamer” strategy for the Switch

That's why I think it would be great if Nintendo focused more on their core games. They do so well. Not much casual from Nintendo has done well since the Wii/DS era. Its just a bit frustrating that they cant at least do a few years of more core games and see how it goes. If it doesnt go well, then at least they will have many games gamers will still love 10, 20, 30 years from now. Instead of a bunch of games that's fun for a month or two.

I don't know. Guess I'm just a bit harder on Nintendo because I like them so much. There are months were I don't buy anything for my Sony or MS consoles as well...

I think we'll get a ton of quality games when it's all said and done, I understand how you feel about Nintendo and I gave them no mercy during the Wii U era, as it was inexcusable the type of support we ended up getting and how many droughts there were. I don't feel that way this time around and I'm optimistic about their future. This is a system where they can combine their handheld and home console software developers under one device and I think by the end of this year into 2019, we'll begin to see a steadier stream of titles similar to how Nintendo handheld the entire year of 2017.

I agree, 2018 so far has been...light on engaging, new Nintendo software, but I think that's gonna change real soon here. I know you're passionate about gaming, but chill, I think Nintendo will be alright this time.

Yeah, I feel better about the Switch than the WiiU. Hopefully we`ll get some nice surprises at E3. Really hope that Italian ad was real and we`re getting a third DKC game from Retro.

Couldn't they just keep making Breath of The Wild-quality games?

Nope. Those record breaking sales were just too much for them to handle. Time for some fuckin' cardboard!

Is Nintendo able to pump out games like that on a yearly basis?

It's ok, as long as they present the games in the correct way.
What really hurt, around 2008 or so, was the focus..

They could have made a sale if they structured the conference differently..

Put the casual stuff in the middle, and close with two or maybe even three hardcore titles. Putting the casual stuff right at the endis not gonna work well. They can still do well and have casual games, but close with something core gamer focused, at the very least..

It looks like they want to expand their player base, not abandon the existing one.

N-no, this is making way too much sense, stop that! They clearly want to stop making big games altogether right now! They will cancel all their so far anounced games and only release Mario Tour from now on. It's very obvious that they hate hardcore gaming.

Also, Nintendo is doomed.

So much overreactions in here.

If it isn't turnbased it isn't worth playing   (mostly)

Hell, is any publisher able to? Nintendo typically publishes like 20-25 games per year with a mix of small, medium & big games.

I suppose they could switch up resources and just make a few AAA games a year but that would significantly affect the diversity and output of their 1st party library.

I'm just passing by to say, this thread sucks. It's been months since Nintendo said that about this year and it's obvious this was referring to Labo. Not only is it very old news, it's also not necessarily indicative of their long-term future beyond 2018. If anything, they might be using 2018 as a means of judging which market they should aim at harder in the future.

Anyways, I want to congratulate all the people who contributed to a whopping 100+ posts in just 10 hours on what is a pointless thread. With that said, I'm out of here.

And as expected, this post was entirely overlooked.

Allow me to congratulate you all once more.

Because you're bad at making posts that aren't condescending, and you're also not very good at convincing others to feel ashamed just for participating in a thread on a forum who's entire idea is to get people to converse.

You being you and me being me doesn't make this a better thread. Point stands.

So then why even post?

Don't be surprised that people ignored your post and then admit your presence in a thread is unneeded

I wouldn't say it's Wii-like at all.  On Switch it is more of a sideshow. Whereas for Wii the system was based on casual games. Nintendo will continue to make their core games deeper like they've done with BOTW and Mario Odyssey. I'm sure they will have more efforts like 1-2 Switch and Nintendo Labo. It's just that it doesn't have near the opportunity to take the system over like it did on the Wii due to mobile games owning that market.

Reminds me of the PS3. Went core first and remained core but also added PlayStation move and games like the harry potter thing ect.

Nintendo clearly has a strategy, they appealed to the core first now they are expanding beyond that, Nintendo has the resources to make both casual and core experiences, as long as they sell.
