Those are certainly my top two of the current generation. I think if I throw Halo: CE in there, we have my top three of all time. I can't really decide on a proper order though.
Well if we are just going to 'best' meaning the one I enjoyed the most have to go Old School with No One Lives Forever 2.
But for just best all around...Half Life 2
Gotta be Bioshock Infinite for me.
The wondrous yet sinister world of Columbia, the way the vigors, Elizabeth's powers, and the skyhook inject energy and dimension into the combat, the superb storytelling, and the character of Elizabeth, so remarkable in every aspect from AI to VA.
Honourable mentions go to the first Bioshock, Halo 1/2/4, and Doom 1993 & 2016.

I assume Metroid Prime officially didn't count, then. |
I personally don't count it, but you're free to disagree.
Metro 2033 Redux.
I still haven't played Doom yet, but I've heard but nothing but great things about it, I plan to play it as soon as I can build myself a new PC.
"Just for comparison Uncharted 4 was 20x bigger than Splatoon 2. This shows the huge difference between Sony's first-party games and Nintendo's first-party games."
