Oh yeah, I also want to add that another reason grinding is fine is if the battle system itself is a joy to do. A few examples that come to mind are Xenoblade Chronicles 2 and Grandia 2. Battling in those games were really fun as were their battle themes. Sometimes during a play sessions I'd just battle monsters just for the sake of battling.

If its done right than yes I don't mind it. Mainly for MP or MMO games I find grinding works best. It shows off the hard working players and can make you stand out from the rest. Long term WoW player and iv been grinding in that game for 14 years, I am not bored of it due to the outcome the game offers in the end. EvE online also gives great rewards for those putting in the hours. It makes it so not everyone can just have the best things without working for it.

Plus add more map space, more content within that space with average grind levels, more less powerful bullet sponge enemies, and a longer better written campaign than what D2 had.

I was one of the D1 fans that really thought less grind would be the answer. I didn't expect next to no grind though. Bungie made a huge mistake by going from one extreme to the next. It's too bad because the way the game feels is unlike any other, but that is not enough in today's world to get by. I almost didn't buy D2, and won't be buying the expansions. I rarely play anymore. I don't even see a revert back to D1 grind and loot in a Taken King type expansion bringing me back. D3 and it's reviews will be make or break for good.

If I had a choice between the two, I would choose D1, but would end up putting so many less hours into the game this time around. I don't care how good your game is or what your studio did in the past, the level of grind needs to feel like another worthwhile step in the journey, not simply a chore to be rewarded for.

Well, this conversation highlights one of the big difficulties that developers face.   One issue, three players, three opinions.  We all recognize grind is a problem. We all want different things to "fix" it. 

To make it even hard, consider this: If Bungie surveyed me about grind before D1 came out, I'd have told them I wanted as close to none of it as possible.  I thought I hated grinding.  Then, they made a game with tons of grinding, and I loved it.  They changed it later to be in line with what I "told" them I wanted in that fictional survey.  And my opinion of their game dropped.  

With all of that in mind, I appreciate that Bungie (and others) keep trying.  In some respects, it really is a thankless job.

No doubt. No matter what Bungie does they are going to get a lot of hate from some angle. We haven't even mentioned the gamers who probably curse them up and down for leaving Halo behind. I'm sure there are also others who are pissed that Destiny isn't just like Halo was. It's tough for everyone because they all expect so much from a studio like Bungie, and want to be catered to, because the feel and mechanics of Destiny are just blissful to experience, and it's tough to let go knowing someone else is enjoying it for what it is, and more.

Life's all about choices though. Would you rather have a spouse who's got a little bit of everything with all the right tastes and proportions, or the hottest of them all, even if their only skin deep? Destiny seems to be able to fit both options, but not both at the same time, not yet anyway, so Bungie may have to decide between the "lifer" or the "cheaters".



Repetition usually leads to boredom.

So, yes, i dislike it if it raises repetition levels greatly. But, if it's varied, it hardly feels like a grind.
