Impressive considering its momentum has largely been driven by Zelda (which is also on Wii U, albeit a very strong entry in the series), Mario Odyssey, and essentially a bunch of ports and lesser known indies.

I also have a feeling this console will have some great legs overall especially when compared to the Wii.

Splatoon 2 is huge thing especially in Japan and it cannot be ignored. It and Arms along with other games and a bright future helped to keep the momentum going. Marketing has also been good enough. Now with smash 5, metroid prime 4 and pokemon in the horizon it will be easy to keep momentum.

Ah, the classics. The logic behind a lot of these Switch doom threads is heavily flawed, even for then. It really amazes me how people come to such conclusions...before the device even arrives. 

What are the numbers for the year so far?

Well done Switch. Congratulations for Nintendo on this new record.

It is a hybrid in the sense that is makes the consumer choose how they want to use it as, handheld or home console. Nobody else can tell a Switch owner what to classify his Switch as. I use it as a home console. But I know it is a hybrid console, because I know people who use it portably only.

Even factoring in handhelds its 2nd, only behind GBA.

I agree. After six or seven years Switch sale swill fall off a cliff. Mark my words!
