3 times as much? That's impressive and I think it's fair to say that Switch owners don't have to worry about content anymore. I guess the real question now is why were there so few games on the Wii U?

Well from obvious reasons, Nintendo suported Wii U and 3DS in same time, Wii U wasn't dev friendly, and start selling very bad only few months after launch.

Game development splited with 3DS

First time with HD development

Poor sales to justify a better support

And people like Josh Thomas from the youtube channel Nintendo Beyond still claim the Wii had a much better first year in terms of games than the Switch lol. Some people are so full of themselves that they can't see reality anymore.

The number of Wii games seems low

They failed miserably but one of the major selling points they tried pushing early on was the ability to play AAA 3rd party titles.

They wanted to attract the "casual" Wii & "hardcore" PS3/360 audiences with Wii U.
