Impressions are quite positive.

The part about making your own inout-output combinations is huge! That means people can do all kinds of ingenious stuff with it.

I saw a GameXplain yesterday revealing more about this, and honestly I now think it's brilliant. This is such a simple introduction for kids into the basest levels of programming.

I'd personally already been thinking about making my own contraptions (perhaps replacing cardboard with cooler materials), but this added ability to interact with the hardware and see what results you can come up with is just such a cool idea for kids to dabble in...

I'd seen and played "if->then" games that introduce you to the concepts of programming, but as kids absolutely love to engage all of their senses when investigating and learning (there's a reason kids are always putting everything in their mouths lol) this physical, observable manifestation of that inputted logic may really keep their attention.

Engadget guy said they where already showing signs of wear,.... after basically no time at all.
He suspects if you buy a kit, it ll last a week maybe two.

Yeah he enjoyed useing it, and thought kids might too.
But theres something to be said for paying 80$ for a kids toy, that ll only last a week.

So while they where positive, theres certainly also downsides.
Durability is a real issue with this.

Durability is a non-issue. Duct tape and more cardboard. There ya go, thats a free tip.

The kids in the videos seemed quite enamoured with it, which I think is the much more important indicator.

The money is for the Software.  You can use any cardboard so it is not like you even have to go far to replace it if need be.

I think Nintendo even said that they were going to put out pdf files with the cardboard patterns.
