Microsoft buying EA would be so perfect.

Why? what is it that makes you think this would be a perfect fit for MS?

Maybe EA winning worst company of the US for many years in a row?

No it doesn't work like that, otherwise PES would expensive to make.

So EA really needs to ask permission from everyy single club in the world individually? What a pain

No more than likely League rights, like La Liga, Prem League and Serie A you get all the clubs that way. Fifa is just the governing body of Football they down own individual leagues.

microsoft buying EA is completely impossible. Not to mention,it would cut the profit of things like fifa and madden.

I think in most cases if they can agree a deal with the league then they can include all clubs in the league, really depends on how the leagues are set up though and it varies from country to country. There's still a bunch of leagues that FIFA doesn't have though, proving that they really do need to work things out individually for each one. PES has exclusive rights to the Brazillian league for example, and up until a couple years ago also had the Japanese league exclusively. I'm really hoping EA work out a deal with the Chinese league soon though, would love to have that in the game!

Didnt know this.So its really a pain in the arse to make any kind of sport game that relies on outside brands. Thanks for the clarification.

My (locked) thread about how difficulty should be a decision for the developers, not the gamers.

They are a perfect match for each other.their goals are the same.

Microsoft would never buy a big publisher like EA. If they did, EA would then go and lose more than half it’s value because it is a multi platform publisher. You cut out all the multi platform sales and you cut out a good chunk of its value. EA would probably lose a big chunk of its licenses as I’m sure the nfl and fifa and the like have outs in case EA went under or got gobbled up. If they didn’t then I am sure they wouldn’t renew. EA just isn’t built to be a single platform company.

If Microsoft purchased EA all the games would still come Playstation and Nintendo, there's no way they would allow that sort of money allowance for such a little division such as xbox.

I don't believe EA is good value for money to a Sony or an MS. As others have pointed out, they would be unlikely to retain licenses to FIFA and Star Wars unless they kept them multiplatform.

So - EA would only sell for value reflective of their multiplatform sales of these games, but MS could never extract that value fully.

On the other hand, they could use their significant developer base to make all other IP and future IP exclusive, while keeping SW and Fifa games multiplatform. But thats a lot of value they have to pay for and immediately give up.

starcraft - Playing Games = FUN, Talking about Games = SERIOUS

The rumor seems to have been speculating for months according to a reliable MS insider buy he thinks the actual buy out is unlikely.

I read this rumor today but didn't even realize FIFA would become an Xbox exclusive, this one move would singlehandedly flip the european market and put Sony at a HUGE disadvantage. still we're talking about hundreds of bilions of dollars here, it's hard to say wether MS would attempt making such a move

No, FIFA would always be multiplat as part of the licence agreement.

There is essentially zero chance that FIFA or Madden would become MS exclusives.  That would leave too much money on the table.

In fact, if MS were to acquire EA, I would expect EA to continue to operate largely independently of MS. It wouldn't make any sense to buy the company, then purposely cut the sales by more than half.  We may see favorable treatment to MS, such as timed exclusives, marketing deals, and the like.  But, there's no way that they would stop making their big franchise's for PS or any other successful platform.
