Forums - Sony Discussion - Sony figurines are finally happening!

Changed the title to be more accurate. Even in the OP you describe them as non-NFC, which is a pretty essential feature of what an amiibo is. These are simply Sony-licensed figurines.

That would require amiibo packaging to be unique and special. But really this shouldn't bother you.

I only said it looks very similar. If Amiibo packaging is ripped off from something else, then show it to me and i'll drop it.

Sorry, but who's getting defensive over this? Not my fault that Sony wants in on amiibo-like figures. I actually welcome it. I love figurines. That's how I see Amiibo's too. Figurines first. Cheap figurines of popular characters.

I wouldn't say Amiibo packaging is ripped off but it's pretty standard figurine packaging. Take for example, TMNT figurine packages which date back from the 90s:

Yeah but they put too much of it in Pokemon Omega Ruby.

Which is their absolute prerogative for inventing it!

I get what you're saying. This is a fairly standard small figure package, similar to many Star Wars ones. But looking at the Amiibo and Totaku packaging, some things just seem similar such as color coding, text (name of the character) in front of the case, the large character artwork on the surface behind the case.

And you know what, I think it's totally OK. Amiibo's sold well. So it would be smart to market them similarly (if they aimed for that). It's good money and ultimately helps the IP imo.

Reminds me of that time Sony stole Nintendo's idea of making Video Games™.

As if that was the whole story. Sony actually wanted to not just make Video Games™ but NINTENDO™© Video Games™! Not a single original bone in their body.

How are these any different than Funko Pop figures?

Last I checked, they had Crash, Kratos, Aloy, Spyro, Sackboy, Heihachi, etc. Funko figures. These just look a little more like the game models.

The packaging at least makes it very amiibo-ish. Let's be real.

Like most action figure-like product line you mean?
