Forums - Gaming Discussion - Sony's PhyreEngine is Now Supported by Nintendo Switch

So here's something that I had no idea of, as I am sure some others didn't:

Thanks to the licensing document for the US region Dragon Quest Builders demo, it is now known that Sony Interactive Entertainment’s PhyreEngine is now supported on Nintendo Switch. [Thanks, Resetera!]

Dragon Quest Builders was natively developed on PhyreEngine, so perhaps this is not as big a surprise as it should be. PhyreEngine is compatible with other platforms such as Xbox One, Xbox 360, PC, and even Android and iOS. However, Dragon Quest Builders seems to be the first Nintendo Switch game to confirm PhyreEngine support.

Other games coming to Nintendo Switch that use PhyreEngine include Falcom’s Ys VIII. Well known titles such as Falcom’s Trails of Cold Steel series and Square Enix’s Final Fantasy X/X-2 HD Remaster were also developed on the same game engine.

...though in the end, I suppose all this means is easier ports for NSW

Incomeing Ports of Trails of Cold Steel series?
That would be big for the Switch imo.

I guess it's always good for the platform to have multiple compatibilities.

Well, I didn't know this existed:

But it is a good thing. Engine support is very important for multiplatform games.

Switch support is by the way not mentioned on the homepage, as isn't Xbox-support:

Square Enix uses Sony engines? Interesting choice.

Solid line of RPGs? I know the Switch has Xenoblade, and a new SMT comeing... but having Trails of Cold Steel, cant hurt any.

I see what you mean. I hope that Falcom sees all the success in the world, but they're pretty dependent on people double or triple dipping for their ports.

If those Switch ports are to come for The Legend of Heroes, I sure hope they are not lots better on Switch than PS4, haha.

A backlog is a hell of a thing to surmount.

Decima engine support incoming.
