AI catch-up is gone The pre-programmed order in which the AI finishes is gone Hitting objects like trees and blocks don't make you spin around anymore (this was VERY annoying in the N64 version, not sure if this was still there in the later versions) You don't have to retry the race anymore when you finish last, you just get low points Driving on grass etc. (offroad) is making you significantly slower, so you can't be a terrible driver and finish first anymore ...and probably some other things. |

In Mario Kart Wii it is unfair hard to get triple star ranks in the higher classes in GP mode, or maybe it's just me who has that much bad luck. For a triple star rank you have to win every race and have a low total time. The latter is hardly possible because the Coms seem to get so many annoying items like blue shells and the worst of all, the POW block. Unless you are lucky through all four races of a GP, you really have no chance to secure a triple star rank. I can't be that bad in the game since I have already beat most of the staff ghosts in time attack. One thing you didn't mention in your review is that the framerate in 3 and 4 player modes is significantly lower than in 1 and 2 player modes. |
The AI didn't seem cheat in the original either. You could lap pretty much everyone if you were good enough.
Rol: I haven't tried 3/4 player splitscreen yet. Is it really much slower or only a little (in other words, does it influence the gameplay in a bad way?)
| Chrizum said: ALL of these things are NOT true. IGN lied. MK Wii features all options you'd expect from a AAA Nintendo game. And that's surprising, considering Mario Kart never was an AAA franchise. MK Wii is the best Mario Kart EVER. |
And what is that supposed to mean? Mario Kart has one of the most beloved and widely-loved games in Nintendo's arsenal since the SNES days.
