Forums - Gaming Discussion - 2017 is not ps4's peak year!

2018 is going to easily be the PS4s biggest year assuming a decent portion of previously announced titles release. God of War, Spider-Man, Ni No Kuni, Shadow of the Colossus, and Detroit are enough to make it my favorite year at least.

Talking about HW sales as well? If PS4 peak in 2018 that will be quite a big feat.

Of course this isn’t its peak year; it’s not even officially at the magical $199 price tag yet. I think, PS4 has a much stronger exclusive lineup this year, and the better third party support with games like RDR2, FC5, and the next CoD will most definitely bolster sales. If they can secure getting the full release of PUBG at its launch this year, that would just be icing on the cake.

I'll just say. Make a believer and reach 25M on 2018 =p

If Sony do a price drop on either SKU officially it has a chance. Not 100% convinced it'll hit the mark without one but it does have a great exclusive software lineup to keep the hardware up there.

I think there is a very good chance of PS4 selling more in 2018. Looking at what is coming already, and the possabilities of price cuts to PS4 Slim and PS4 Pro, I can see Sony shipping 25 Million units in CY2018.

However, I believe 2019 will be the peak. We know for sure that a PS4 Super Slim is coming, and it should launch for $149.99. There should also be a PS4 Pro Slim for $249.99. Then we have the wild cards, PS4 Premium, PS4 Portable, PS4 Phone, PSVR Pro.

I believe 2019 will end up being the first year, with major 3rd party AAA PSVR support. With PS4 Super Slim + PSVR $199.99, Sales will be absolutely insane regaurdless of Premium, Portable, Phone. I think Sony could break the 30 Million shipped mark in 2019.

Outside of gaming, I believe the PS4 Super Slim will come in a Digital Only form factor with 500GB of Flash. With no Blu-ray Drive and no HDD, the thing will be roughly the size of Amazon Fire TV, Apple TV, and Roku boxes. I also think they will put HDMI 2.1 in it allowing for 4K HDR video content. This will be combined with 4K HDR TV using Hybrid Log Gamma on PlayStation Vue, and a huge push in the Set Top Box market. This could even turn into a thing where they offer PS4 SS for free with 3 months of PS Vue, or at a substantial discount.

This is just based on what we already know. We still have 2 years worth the trade shows, and partenerships. The more the PS4 sells, the more 3rd parties, gaming or otherwise are going to want to be on the platform. It is going to be an awesome ride.

Doubtful. Not likely. Nope. Possible, maybe.

Though if these could be real that would be something.

Hard to say. If they go that route, then PS4 sales should remain blazing hot. On the other hand, if we start hearing about PS5 in Q3/Q4 2018, then PS4 sales will likely plummet. One thing is for sure, we will know one way or the other by the end of this year, because whether PlayStations next device is coming in 2019 or 2020, devs will be talking about it 18 to 24 months before hand. With 7nm chips being ready in by Q4 2018, something is definitly cooking for release.

I expect some controlled leaks that point heavily in whatever direction they choose to take, because it can have dramatic sales implications.

A PS5 isnt going to sink PS4 sales, especially since they will be able to get the PS4 down in price fairly easily (unlike the PS3, plus its long gen cycle). PS5 will also most likely be compatible with PS4 software so the PS4 will hit longer income brackets/ ppl wanting a 2nd console while PS5 pushes to those wanting something new. At least for a year, most games will probably run on both.

As for when PS5 is known, they will just do the same as with the PS4. Announce and release within the same year. Maybe we know next year. Or we know in 2020. Either way, PS4 sales are still going strong. I dont think Sony are going to bother releasing another high-end PS4 since its pretty obvious their slim is what is pushing sales. I doubt you get a portable because of price issues. and a PS4 phone just seems... I mean I know you want that so if it happens then cool.

Either way, as long as PS has the software variety, its all good.

Well it is until now, if 2017. will be all time peak PS4 year, we will see this year beacuse IMO 2017. or 2018. will be peak PS4 year.

2018 has a chance to do 25 million if sony plays there cards right.
