Discussion in the tweet below seems to suggest that the Switch could outsell the WiiU faster than expected. Famitsu says the Switch sold 303,504 units Christmas week.

Even buy MC numbers Switch just need to sell around 150k outsell Wii U.

The OCT-DEC report next month should be clear things up. Most likely in that report we will hear if the Switch has outsold the WiiU globally or not. It should be very close either way.

Not really sure why people use Famitsu, when the companies use Mediacreate. Using Famitsu is like using VGC over NPD. Sure, Famitsu probably has more data points than VGC, but Mediacreate is going to be more accurate, anyway.

BTW, they say Switch did 270K this past week. Still great.

I kinda agree with that. But of course the comparation is kinda extreme since, you know, VGChartz numbers are wrong most of the time and get adjusted, VGC has like < 0,5% of the market tracked compared to like >95% of NPD, and we talk about banned numbers.

Is not the same as Media Create or Famitsu, which are both good sources... still agree about people using Famitsu when Nintendo use Media Create.

2020 predictions: NSW 25m, PS5 6m, XSX 4.5m, PS4 11m, XB1 4m

In December 2019 i predicted 21m Switch, 9m PS4 and 3m XB1, but that was before COVID, obvius increased my predictions.

NICE!!!

The absence of evidence is NOT the evidence of absence...

It's a great console, very attractive, great software, and it will continue to sell.

Winning Japan is the opening number, wait for the finale.

“When we make some new announcement and if there is no positive initial reaction from the market, I try to think of it as a good sign because that can be interpreted as people reacting to something groundbreaking. ...if the employees were always minding themselves to do whatever the market is requiring at any moment, and if they were always focusing on something we can sell right now for the short term, it would be very limiting. We are trying to think outside the box.” - Satoru Iwata - This is why corporate multinationals will never truly understand, or risk doing, what Nintendo does.

I thought it was the other way around, that Famitsu was the more accurate numbers due to having better tracking of online distribution and better access to shipment data.

What are you expecting?

A thing of beauty, strength, and grace lies behind that whiskered face.

switch does really crazy in japan

200k sold in Japan each week is really good, especially when you consider the fact that Nintendo had been selling 150k WW weekly for a long time. These Japanese numbers alone are pretty damn crazy. Not as good as the 3DS, but I don't think that matters. This isn't even considering NA sales either, which ideally should be higher than JP for December. Should close at around 2.5 million units for December if everything goes accordingly. Maybe like 1.1M in NA and then at least 500k for EU. But I don't know if I can trust that EU can pull those numbers...
