Forums - Gaming - Nintendo v Sony. War of attrition.

This reminds me of a cnn story where they didn't check their source. Sony has been the market leader in home consoles where it dominated the competition for 3 out of 4 gens. i don't know how you're coming to the conclusion that you are but a person drinking nothing but tequila for day could come up with a thread op that would make more sense than you are with this. Attrition wise both sony and nintendo will be around for years to come while xbox is a question mark.

Had MS successfully followed up on the 360, PS4 wouldn't be set to sell over 140M. MS cut them in half with no ill effect on Nintendo. It's pretty clear what you have to do to compete with Sony (hint:no kinect). Nobody's come up with a way to stop Nintendo. Whether it's 5 years or 50 years, unless someone can counter Nintendo they're set to win in the end.

Well no one has come up with a way to stop Sony either...

Sony got through last gen on PS2 vapours. MS comfortably made headway into Sony's near monopoly and forced them into charging for online/increasing costs. I'm not saying Sony isn't in a strong position, I'm saying that unless someone successfully challenges Nintendo, it's only a matter of time before they win.

Nov 2016 - NES outsells PS1 (JP)

Don't Play Stationary 4 ever. Switch!

Many have challenged Nintendo and have cut their userbase several times. They have won back several. So has Sony. Why is it when the WiiU failed, its ok because it was just a prototype for the Switch...but when the PS3 "failed", it wasn't a prototype for the PS4?

Nintendo would have a place in gaming even if hardware became obsolete. Sony will drop dedicated hardware and start streaming games the second it becomes profitable and good enough for the mainstream. Nintendo will be in until the last man.

Again...why does this only apply to Nintendo?

You again!? Ugh!

Bill, please. Just stop.

I admit some of this was worth a good laugh.

It's Nintendo who are the ones that have to prove themselves after coming off of a massive decline, not Sony ...

OP forgets that it is Nintendo who cannot be trusted and there's a reason why they've seceded from the home console market altogether ...

Japan is also falling into irrelevance and is a declining market too plus ultra portables will NEVER be able run the same exact games as home consoles do ...

Well nobody really comes close to Sony in the console market...

Except when Microsoft cut them in half and Nintendo outsold both?

Most of that was due to Sony being arrogant, launching a year later, cell, $599 US dollars, inferior 3rd party multiplats. Sony has wised up a lot since those dark days.

And it seems you’re conveniently forgetting when Nintendo was crushed during the GameCube and Wii U eras. PS’s worst era and still practically a three way tie. Not to mention the 3DS is leagues behind the DS and GBA in WW sales, and PS4 WW shipments I believe have eclipsed it despite launching 2 years later.

I get you’re a huge Nintendo guy but let’s use logic.

Without Nintendo the console industry is doom. Nintendo Innovate and Sony rely on them so they move forward as well. In due time with the PC market becoming bigger every year, the PlayStation and Xbox need to differ or there will be no point in owning consoles when PC gaming is becoming cheaper and cheaper every year. Exclusive don't sell consoles, innovation and marketing does. Nintendo will continue to innovate to stay unique, as of right now the PS4 and X1 are just closed off PCs with paywalls for your living room.
