Hehehe

Im just pointing out the fact that there are waaay more reasons to launch a console than just stock.

If Sony released the PS2* in Japan and then the rest of the world, thats because they had plenty of reasons to do so.

If the only reason was just stock, then every company would gather tens of millions of consoles in a warehouse till the production was big enough to fill every retailer in the world with plenty of stock for years.

* EDIT

Only companies that wanted to go bankrupt would do that...

Producing tens of millions of a product and just storing them in a warehouse without selling them is a fantastic way to make huge losses.

Agreed Kapi!

I dare you explain this to Miiyamoto.

Mr Puggsly: "Hehe, I said good profit. You said big profit. Frankly, not losing money is what I meant by good. Don't get hung up on semantics"

Azzanation: "PS5 wouldn't sold out at launch without scalpers."

I tried but couldnt, even if both ours lives depended on him understanding that there is no good reason to have almost 2 Quarters of inventory on the factory+shipping channel he kept puting ¨fantastic reason why it would make sense¨ when the only reason was for Nintendo to manage to ship 30M Switch in a year (or something like 3x the current year)

Impressive figures and the good news for consumers is that this means no shortage of games coming to the PS4 in 2018 and beyond.

Its a lost cause...... he doesn't even get that the "warehouse" for these companies are actually the ships carrying the consoles to their destinations.

We could just rack the consoles on the celling of the factories...

Sony preffers to warehouse the PS4 on people homes.

bumping because I just noticed this thread.... (got redirected here by CGI-Q)

Insane sales... 4 years and 70.6m+ consoles.
Next year it should end up above the PS3.

Interesting to note that the Japanese market has contracted significantly since the PS1/PS2 era and that the PS4 is not exactly hitting a home run in NA (comparitively to the PS2, Wii or 360). So it's appeal as a brand has weakened in some markets, while growing stronger in others.

I don't think it has nothing to do with their brand weakening. The PS2 had almost zero competition. It got a 1-year advantage on most places and most 3rd party games were exclusive or timed exclusives. GTA: SA was a 1 year exclusive, imagine the damage that would do today.

The only reason why the PS4 doesn't dominate like that is because it actually has competitors that are good alternatives. The PS2 was like Mike Tyson fighting two small kids.
