Your the master of that art. He learnt from you

Now that I am home, I can comment more on the charts. I wonder how much longer before Zelda reaches 1 million in total Wii U and Switch. It will be so awesome when that happens, since I always want Zelda to be top tier in Japan as well.

Switch version is at 657k and Wii U version was at 133k when it dropped out of the charts so its well over 800k combined when factoring in digital.

1mil by years end! (Ship+digital). Only 5mil more to go for it to be top tier :p

People forget an important part: if sony loses japan, ps loses one of the biggest reasons it has to selling: jappanese third party exclusivity. In fact the widest 2 console game coverage may as well turn out to be xbone+switch after a while whereas before now it was 3ds+ps4.

Do you think those Japanese exclusives are there because Sony is doing so well in Japan? Or is it because Sony has a massive installbase outside of Japan? I meant - are those games targeting the 5M owners in Japan or the 60M+ outside of Japan? Also, are there a lot of Japanese exclusives?

You are forgetting that a lot of 3rd party games have 40% or more of thier worldwide sales in japan alone. Up to this point, ps4 was the ONLY viable platform in(but this is mostly due to vita) or out of japan.

Its not like that anymore.

Very nice Switch sales, One has to wonder how much it would of achieved if it wasn't still supply limited, 200k perhaps

I don't know about 40%. According to VGC, the highest selling PS4 Japanese game is FFXV at #17 and that is at 21% without digital. And that's one of the biggest third party franchises out there. Third party Japanese devs are targeting the west mostly now. I think the only exception is probably SE with DQ.

At least Kerotan and Law are consistent in the different regions they post, Someone like Tbone is curiously absent in the UK threads every week because he can't make the same fiery arguments (outside the proverbial Nintendo is weak in the UK) I always find him throwing here in Japan. Maybe that should be the mantra for Playstation and Japan. Its sales are not up to snuff because Japan is their weakest market...and call it a day.

The UK IS historically Nintendos weakest market though, They've had trouble penetrating that market ever since the NES days and lost the territory to the british micros and Sega continously for various reasons.

The same is not true for Sony in japan. They were extemely successful with the ps1, ps2 and psp in japan and lost a significant amount of their market share there. some of it is probably down to a shrinking market in japan, but the Switch shows that consoles can still succeed and do very well in japan.

Both companies have made apparent missteps in the respective regions.

Yes, he used an American Express card to get a $100 discount on a purchase of over $400.  This applies to ALL purchases.  That is NOT a discount on Switch itself.  It's a discount on all purchases over $400.  Including PS4 or anything else you put in your cart.

He could have purchased $400 worth of packs of bubble gum and he would have received a $100 discount for using his AMEX card.  Are you going to say bubble gum got a $100 discount now?

I dont think bubble gum got a $100 price cut during its first year so there is no comparison

This dicussion has gone into Trump regions of hilarity now. Thanks guys I haven't laughed like this at a thread in months! XD

The Switch shows that a portable gaming system which has a video output that can hook up to a TV can sell in Japan. Did we really not know that a portable Nintendo system could sell in Japan?

The amount of damage control in this thread by some types is astounding.

Japan is becoming irrelevant? When? How? Since when did UK (my own country) overtake Japan??

Nintendo isn't just shaking Japan, but also here on vgchartz. xD

It's funny because ps4 dominating WW has shook this place a hell of a lot more then switch in Japan.

It will be up regardless and be the best year since the ps2 for a home console.  So much to switch eating it's sales.

What if it only sells 300k in the next 5 weeks? It would be down YOY and not the best year since PS2. Thats how insignificant its lead is, its going to essentially be flat YOY with roughly 1.8m sold this year and acting like thats some sort of accomplishment.

"Yay!!! This is the least we've sucked in over a decade!!!!"

The point is they are doing good numbers and switch hasn't affected it's performance let alone eaten it's sales.

UK is the 3rd largest market, right?

And yet there a few on here downplaying the UK like it doesn't matter. Ironically we've had a lot of people over this gen downplay Japan just because the Wii u and xb1 failed. Fact is both the UK and Japan are relevant and ps4 does good in both.

Fact is 2017 overall is up nicely over 2016. It will be the biggest year for a PlayStation home console since the ps2 days. But yeah switch is eating it's sales LOL.

Are you sure that 2017. will be biggest year for PS since PS2 days!?

Currently difference between PS4 2017. and PS4 2016. sales is only around 150k, last few weeks 2017. sales are lower compared to 2016. sales, it will be interesting to see if PS4 will be YOY at all at end of December beacuse for next 2 weeks PS4 last year sold 210k.

And definitely seems that Switch sales start cannibalizing PS4 sales in Japan, because PS4 start selling worse compared to last year on weekly basis.

I just told you why thwtsca ridiculous statement but I guess you'd prefer to ignore the facts just to suit yourself.

Last year q3 for ps4 was average. Q4 was amazing with ps4 slim, pro, price cut and FFXV.

This year q3 was good mainly thanks to dq11 but q4 is barren. That's why sales are as they are. But feel free to keep ignoring facts so you can pretend the switch is eating the ps4's sales.

Well if we are talking about WW, actually it is the best year of ps4 so far.

between the beginning of january and the end of october of 2016, the ps4 sold nearly 9.5 millions of units.

In the same period, even with the mighty switch, it sold 12.6 millions in 2017

That's Insane.
