Forums - Nintendo Discussion - Nintendo Has Embraced DLC, But Must Resist The Worst Industry Norms

I’m not at all afraid of DLC, and am in favour of dev teams getting extra money for extra work. What it means in the end is more money going into the initial pitch of the game to consumers because they know they can make a platform out of it if it sells well. People who want extra stuff can spend the extra money, while everyone else can enjoy a bigger and better base game than they otherwise would have had.

Remember how disappointed everyone was that they didn’t do that with Mario on mobile. When the game was done, it was over. No one else spent more money on it because there was nothing more to spend on.

lol too late for that, pay to play is coming next year. Nintendo is simply slower at adopting industry trends. I'm sure in a few years they'll start doing lootboxes too, we can only hope they're easier to ignore like most of Nintendo's dlc.

Wow there are actually people who think that Amiiboos are the worst DLC type...

If it isn't turnbased it isn't worth playing   (mostly)

And shepherds we shall be,

For Thee, my Lord, for Thee. Power hath descended forth from Thy hand, That our feet may swiftly carry out Thy command. So we shall flow a river forth to Thee And teeming with souls shall it ever be. In Nomine Patris, et Filii, et Spiritūs Sancti. -----The Boondock Saints

Nintendo loves DLC and it's going to get much worse.

If it weren't for other companies doing the pre-order bonuses or store exclusive thing, I would really hate Amiibo. But I've learned that one can't get 100% of everything in a game anymore, so it don't but me as much.

But out of the possible cosmetic DLC's Amiibo do suck for a few reasons.

1. If you don't want a physical figurine you are stuck with one.

2. Most likely have to be attentive and jump on pre-ordering said Amiibo or stuck buying from some scalper for double the price.

3. Not easy to get as DLC. You have to go to possibly mutlpile stores, or multiple sclapers to get Amiibo. Normal DLC you can more easily waste your money all in one digital store very quickly.

4. Content is on your game. The very fact that I just put my Amiibo up to the nfc device and it generates my item instantly means that the game has the items code in it, but it's locked behind a dlc unlock code. Whether the game came with it already on or came in a update/patch, the dlc is on the game regardless of my wishes, yet I can only access it if I buy a figurine and scan it.

So yes, I think Amiibo are bullshit. But at least they are for the most part pointless bullshit. Takes BotW, while outfits are cool and all, all of the bonuses they offer can be acquired by other gear.

Uh, Nintendo has Amiibos, the worst of the DLC bullshit.

What we should be hoping is that the rest of the industry doesn’t go Amiibo type crap.

I can use my standard Mario amiibo in 8 games. And I only paid one time. I can't see how is the worst of dlc bullshit

Isn't it a bit hard to resist the "Worst Industry Norms" when they already have the worst dlc policies in the industry?

Well, everyone has his opinion, but I think there's nothing worse that the casino-like tactics some companies are pulling off lately. Loot-boxes are the pinnacle of this. They're basically finding weak spots in people's heads. Amiibo DLC is shitty, but it's not even close to those tactics.

I don’t think that will be a problem. The last bad Norm for the industry was Norm Macdonald on Wheel of Fortune 2000, Nintendo avoided that one just fine.

How can anyone tell me Nintendo is one of the worst? Games like 2k18 are absolute shit unless you pay or grind for hundreds of hours. Amiibos have NEVER been needed, and almost every 'add-on' from them is ridiculously miniscule.

The only game where their DLC is bad is Fire Emblem, which is oddly expensive compared to the dlc we've seen in other games. Besides that, it's unfair to treat them harshly when other games literally lock their games behind grinding or paying.

So far they did follow all the terrible trends as soon as they were reluctantly accepted by the community so it should take a while until we see preorder, special edition and lootbox bullshit.

Then again, they also have their own unique terrible things and they are financially stable because of it.
