Forums - Nintendo - Nintendo plans to make 25 million to 30 million Switch game consoles next fiscal year

It is going to need a massive expansion in versatility to reach those numbers. Hulu dropping today, and giving you live TV on the TV and around the House is a start, but there is a long way to go.

Pokemon will push a lot of units. If they have a Donkey Kong 64 successor, I could see even more. Perhaps we will see Virtual Console from NES - WiiU, and the ability to bring Wii Sports and Wii Fit to the console. I could see a lot of people upgrading from Wii finally if they did that.

Very interested to see what they have in store to make these claims. Sounds very intriguing, and I hope for the best.

Those games are geared towards everyone in general I would say. all the way from kids, to serious gamers. Not specifically targeting kids/casuals tho.

That's kind of a bad point though, don't you think? Nearly every Nintendo franchise sells to a diverse cast of demographics, that's why a "niche" franchise for Nintendo is 2-3 million and some of their competitors have front runner franchises that sell 2-3m. Nintendo franchises almost always cater to everyone possible, it just doesn't always lead to big sales. Their are exceptions, but Kirby and Animal Crossing and Mario Kart aren't them ...

Well, I feel like pre-New Leaf animal crossing was targeted for casuals..... but New Leaf is clearly more in-depth with more substance and a much better gameplay-loop. that really, anyone can get addicted to. And....how is Mariokart not for anyone?

Bet with Intrinsic:

The Switch will outsell 3DS (based on VGchartz numbers), according to me, while Intrinsic thinks the opposite will hold true. One month avatar control for the loser's avatar.

I seriously do not get how you aren't grasping this. A franchise being casual does not mean it isn't for anyone, in fact it can often mean the opposite. Mario Kart is for anyone, that doesn't make it not casual. No one is saying these games aren't for everyone, casual does not mean excluding the hardcore, lol.

None of those games are really geared towards kids/casuals. The only game from the list you can make a case for is 2D Mario.

Disagree, I dont see how Yoshi can be geared towards kids/casuals and games like Kirby, 3D Mario, Animal Crossing, Smash Bros, Mario Kart, Spaltoon...are not.

Its same thing with Yoshi also, I am surprised you fail to see that.

Well....eh, seems a bit iffy to me, but you may have a case, and I just cant see it. My main point was that the game is very easy for a reason. But the end all that matters is that its a genuiney good game, wether it is geared towards children or not.

Well, it looks like the thing is that we have two different definitions of a game being "casual". I get your definition, and I guess youre completely right, if we go by that. The game can still be casual even if its not specifically targeted for them.... that holds some weight I suppose.

Fair enough, but I don't see how there could be any other definition honestly. Call of Duty is called casual.. Those games aren't aimed at literally every demographic in existent but their market cap makes them stand over nearly other triple A game. If casual had to be games that only appealed to demographics in the same way Brian Age or Wii Sports did, there would literally be like 10 home console casual games.

There might be different "tiers" of a casual game. Maybe a smart phone game is more casual than Mario Kart. I don't think that means Mario Kart isn't casual. By your definition there would be almost no game in existence on current gen consoles that is casual, since it would either have to only appeal to casual-only gamers or it wouldn't have the sales to back it up.

But same goes for Kirby, 3D Mario, Mario Kart, Animal Crossing, Smash Bros...if you wrote DKTF, Xenoblade, Zelda, Metroid...you would had point.

They've got to have quite the line-up, both 1st and 3rd party to back that up.

I mean Animal Crossing, Fire Emblem, Metroid Prime 4, Smash Bros. Pokemon, Dragon Quest, and Grand Theft Auto V to name a few. Because that... is quite the leap.

Just for the record, potential plan for Nintendo to make 25-30m consoles doesnt mean they aiming to ship same number, they could plan to make 25-30m but to ship 20-25m.
