I like how enemies that can launch your characters into the air are now less likely to throw them off a cliff. Now it's only a slight backwards movement before the character falls straight down like a stone. Related: Pushing enemies off a cliff makes their treasure chest spawn on the cliff, so items don't get lost that way anymore.

The affinity chart displays who you can trade which items with, so fetch quests and colony 6 item hunts are a lot more manageable now. Item requirements for colony 6 can be viewed within the mission menu, so that's also helpful.

The red dot feature is also handy. A reminder when you've unlocked new skills or talents.

Item storage has been boosted for equipment types from 300 (I think) to 450. Loot item types have no max number displayed, so I hope that space is unlimited now. It was really annoying in the original when you had to drop or sell items, and then later on it turned out that you actually still needed some of the common item drops.

The only thing that really bothers me up till now is the awkward timing for the B button presses. You are supposed to press too early in order to hit it perfectly. Got my heropon, but raising friendship between Melia and Sharla has priority for now.

Badging is the gaming industry's term for the red dot.

And yeah, it is a super convenient UI improvement. Especially for a game like this which has so many moving parts.

Questing is heavily improved now too, you can get the quest and immediately work on it. In the past it felt like you collected a bunch of quests... 80, 90, however many, and the best you could do is just hope you came across the stuff and the vast majority of the time completing a quest felt like it just happened randomly while exploring around.

I describe myself as a little dose of toxic masculinity.

So... I figured out that in casual mode you can pretty much kill anything, regardless of level... So as soon as I got Shula, I just started grinding the high level enemies. Now I’m at level 90 and still haven’t left the leg...🤗

You're gonna have to kill quite a lot of enemies to gain AP and SP, as the amount you get from enemies scales depending on your level compared to theirs.

I got to this level by killing enemies that are higher level than me... sp and AP are pretty much maxed...  I guess I have a bunch of party memebers I haven’t gotten yet... but AP and sp should scale to lowest level battle party member, so if just stick one of them in my party I should be fine... I could also use expert mode and reduce my level if I needed to as well.  As of right now though, I have pretty much end game gear at the beginning of the game!  It will be like new game +!

Fucking finally ^^

Now the whole family is reunited:

Played around 10 hours this weekend and I can finally experience what everybody what raving about. This is a great RPG, I'm having tons of fun.
I've just reached the Gaur Plains and while I had known the location from the Smash Bros. stage, it's much more impressive when you see it in game. Like recommended I've activated Expert mode, I'm now level 16 and the enemies on the plains are about that level too and I pretty much crush them. I have 5 levels "in the bank" so I'm glad I went with Expert mode since I'd be way too powerful at level 21.

I did have to use my extra levels a few times (Unique Caterpile in the caves, the Nopon challenge thing) but I've adjusted back down right after dealing with those situations.

Signature goes here!

Two and a half hours in. It looks amazing and the remastered soundtrack is beautiful ^^

However... I have mixed feelings about how sidequests are handled now. On one hand, now you don't need to be blindly looking for items and people, which could become very tedious in the original. But on the other hand... I feel like I'm following the map rather than exploring the world. It's like the sense of scope and exploration has been toned down a bit, and I don't think I like that.

Gameplay wise is a huge improvement, but I don't know if I fully like the change xD

I mean, you can always explore just for the heck of it. Even then, you're not obligated to set a sidequest in the active state in the Story Memo section.

I could do those things you say, but then I would lose the obvious benefits on sidequests that I mentioned before. That's why I don't know how to feel about it xD

As for exploring for the heck of it... It's difficult to do that when sidequests already take you through most of the map.

Maybe I'm overthinking things. I'll just keep playing. The attack on Colony 9 is about to begin ^^

Also, you guys are right. Expert mode is a blessing. By this point I would be level 12 and easily kill even the unique monsters. But now I just modify my level to be in the line of the enemies in the zone. Much better... Also, I'm not sure, but I think I'm gaining more AP this way, which is very nice ^^

Oh, I also tried portable mode. Looks much better than Xenoblade 2 and despite it looking a bit soft, in general it holds up really well. I would even go as far as to call it "pretty". Cutscenes on portable surprised me as well, because if you told me they ran at native 720p I would believe it.

So, who else is playing through it for the first time besides TruckOsaurus?

Would love to hear impressions.

Some quests are a bit ridiculous "Go talk to that girl 5 steps in front of me"... Um okay? "Oh he gave me paint, I'm happy, go talk to him about it" HE'S RIGHT THERE!

Oof, finally reached Frontier Village and I also encountered the last important party members, Melia and Heropoooon Riki !

Love to play as Melia since Elemental Burst is kind of an OP tactic with the right party build.
I also encountered enemy with spike status ... Boy thank god for the Monado's ability to erase it.

So I've decided to build my main party as Melia, Riki and Sharla. I wanna finish that friendship quest haha.

You can also gift an item from one member to the other one. They reworked the system and now you can see how much harmony improvement you'll get from an item you have gifted. So you know what items to farm and improve the harmony way faster.
