Forums - Nintendo - Your Switch connection: LAN or WLAN?

How is your Switch connected to the internet when docked?

WLAN / WiFi 26 60.47%

LAN / Ethernet 13 30.23%

Don't know 2 4.65%

Don't care 2 4.65%

Total:43

I use LAN and I have to say that I have a massive disadvantage in Splatoon 2 with my high upload. It often happens that the others know my position about 1 second ahead. But to barbecue my brain with wireless microwave radiation is not an option for me

Wireless, haven't bought a game with online multiplayer yet so can't tell if its bad, but so far in downloading updates, downloading games, going to eshop, no problems whatsoever.

My brother got Splatoon in July, but the connection wasn't good enough for the game. He had to sit next to the wi-fi thing to play the game. So we got a new wi-fi thing, which we placed behind the tv, and now the game works fine in the living room.

Yeah, I also thought about getting a new router... but the Ethernet adapter was much cheaper and there would still be two walls between the new router and my living room... and we are talking about sold brick walls, not the thin drywalls like in many american houses. ;)

That was the problem in my house too. The walls are brick walls from the old farmhouse (with a plaster layer on it).

Wired, I have over 300 hours in Splatoon so it's kind of a requirement.

Oh I have to add that the omkull thing I had to do to get Nintendo online to work properly was to put my Switch MAC in the DMZ on my router. No kind of port forwarding could make my NAT class above C.

Wifi, works now since I got a powerful extender. Before it would not stay connected in the living room. The only problem is that it doesn't automatically use the one with best signal strength and I have to switch manually when I'm nearer the base station.

Fiber is love, fiber is life. When your wifi speed is around 300mpb/s, you don't need a LAN adapter

How's everyone's download speeds in general when downloading software / system updates etc? Are there ever times where the game downloads or system updates seem to take longer than usual?

Just wondering because I got the Mario Odyssey bundle last night but haven't set up the Switch yet, will probably do that at some point tonight or tomorrow and I'll be using my WLAN which I haven't had any issues with so far. However there are many times where PS4 software and system updates can take a while to download and I've got the console wired directly to my router.

You know I was always wondering why no one ever used the dollar sign for $ony, but then I realized they have no money so it would be pointless.
