Forums - Nintendo - After playing some of Zelda: Breath of the Wild...

BOTW's appeal is that it takes the open world structure and does what Minecraft essentially did with sandbox games and designs an adventure with in that absolute freedom which is something no other game has done. The level of detail on the game is to the point that the player's own creativity and imagination is rewarded to a ridiculous level for example this is a game where people have used the mechanics and physics to build airships or make bosses cross paths causing them to fight each other or do crazy things like store energy in a boulder grab on to it and launch yourself over an enemy camp let go and rain arrows and bombs on them or even start fires to use the warm rising air to fly away etc...

You don't get these interactions in other open world games you can name any I'd bet none have such level of interactions and freedom to do what people do in BOTW.

Idk how someone would not be able to finish the game...if you are getting bored, just go to ganons castle and end it...especially if you have put in 50+ hours... thats the beauty of the game, its as long as you want it to be.

Muda Muda Muda Muda Muda Muda!!!!

I can't really make statements like that, considering I don't really play open world games, but I really did enjoy BotW's world. It was just a joy yo explore since there's always something calling out your attention all around you. Any Zelda session would easily last at least 2 hours because of this... which may be why I stopped playing it after some time. I don't have the spare time to play for that long, and trying to find everything single thing does make it quite tiring. Most of the time playing I did really enjoy though, haha.

I can't pretend I've played every modern open world game out there, but this is the first in its genre to keep engaged enough to play through to the end right away. The entire world just felt so immersive, I've never had a game grip me like this one did. Two hours sessions became 4 hour sessions became all night sessions; it was just a game I couldn't stop playing.

Easily my GOTY...and probably in my top 5 as well...if I took the time to really compare my favorite games across genres.

Another thing I noticed about Breath of the Wild is how the dungeons are objectively worse than past Zelda games, and somehow I find them much more fun. If I were to try to put my finger on it I'd say it is the length of them and how there's almost always something fun to in them.

The game is the first one since Link to the Past where the Overworld feels more than just something you walk along with obstacles to get to town or the next dungeon.

I think it's because in previous games the dungeons would house an item and they would be designed around that particular item and what ever else you were meant to have at the time, in BOTW the dungeons are just designed around a simple concept overall.

It's not a perfect, but I've enjoyed it very much. One of my Top 5 games ever for sure.

I was checking out Assassin's Creed Origins footage today and I was dumbfounded at how... empty... it all looks. Like, what do you even do in that game?

Yeah I really loved that the shrines were so compact and digestable, I never had to worry about getting halfway through one, having to turn the system off, and coming back later, I could just pick them off in bite sized chunks at my leisure. Nearly all of them were really well designed too, with puzzles that were logical and intuitive rather than frustrating and obtuse.

I really like dungeons in BotW, only complaint I have about them is why there inst more of them, and that bosses were somehow similar.

A mode that you can switch in the options menu. I might have gotten the name wrong.. but the option turns off the map function along with the temperature meter. This pretty much forces you to explore the map with less guidance. Pretty cool option.

You werent wrong. I looked for it after someone else brought it up in the options menu. Yes, I will definitely be using this for my second playthrough. Thank you. :)

Play with Pro Hud right away don't wait another play through, its much better experience and perfectly fits with exploration of vast world, you will start pay much more attention on surroundings and world itself. Ofcourse if you are lost or you dont know what are you doing you can always look in map.

lol After close to 300 + hours of play between me and my kids we are still playing and havent done 2 of the dungeons and about 30+ shrines to go and havent done all the side quest or the trial of the sword. My kids and I play in Pro Hud Mode
