Forums - Nintendo - After playing some of Zelda: Breath of the Wild...

I usually get burnt out half-way during open world games and never finish them but man did Breath of the Wild do things right! I bought it and beat it on Wii U and when I got my Switch two months later, I bought it again and started back from the beginning still not tired of it.

In my humble opinion, Botw is to open world games what Halo Combat Evolved was to FPS games; the kind of title that sets a new standard for the genre while opening up fresh paths for future games to explore. Whether or not other open world games will rise to the challenge remains to be seen, but for me that's perhaps the single most exciting thing about Botw; that as amazing as it is, it represents the tip of the iceberg in terms of what can be achieved with its design philosophy.

I agree, one of the best experiences I ever had with any videogame, miles better than any other open world I have ever played, not in every aspect but in general, the feeling of wonder while playing it is something else.

Yeah, there are some open world games that I respect for their more progressive system, but BOTW treats you at any point of the game like your experience truly is attained from what you gather in the world and earn. It treats the game less like an RPG and more like a true action game, which is why is so special. You still have to strategize, but the strategy is more simplistic yet delivers more freedom than ive ever witnessed. Theres less restriction and ive never felt that before.

Well said. So true.

Thats great to hear! Lets hope Nintendo transfers some of its open world exploration elements into Odyssey. This game is fireeeee!

Well, what about God of war though? You still going to play that?

Without a shadow of a doubt. Nintendo and Sony are killing it; however, this year just belonged to Nintendo. Im definitely getting God of War. It usually drops at least a month away from Red Dead. As great of a name as God of War is...nothing will survive a Red Dead Launch. Thats more dangerous than launching near Call of Duty.

I really don't see what the fuss is about. There's nothing truly unique about BotW other than that it's a Zelda game. Maybe that'll do it for some people. Okay, maybe the puzzles. If you like puzzles in your RPG, which I don't because they feel out of place and immersion breaking.
So basically, if those two things are your cup of tea, I guess it just doesn't get any better than this game. If not, there are numerous other sandbox RPGs that do everything better.

Why do people ask for dungeons?

The entire game is a dungeon. You are just not handheld through the game telning you that the transport part ends and a dungeon begins like in traditionalist Zeldas.

I simply don't see these "numerous" other games have offered the level of freedom and interactivity that Botw does. For example, complex physics barely even factor into most open world games, much less in a way that offers such varied gameplay possibilities. The sheer amount of interactions is mind boggling, yet every one of them connects seamlessly together to form a multifaceted whole.

Well....Nintendo never tried to create immersion in their games. They never lost sight of the fact that their games were just...well games. Sony goes for immersion and Nintendo goes for novel changes in gameplay mechanics. Seriously, in what game can you create uncrealistic physics based bombs out of thin air based on shape and control objects with magnets while slowing down time. This game is about being creative and free in any and everything that you do. As far as this goes Nintendo is in a league of their own. Rockstar, CD Projket Red, Bethesda Sony and Nintendo all have their own seat at the table when it comes to great development this gen. Nintendo definitely holds the crown right now for creating a game with the most choice, creativity and freedom. The game does not get monotonous for me.
