Forums - Gaming - VGC Yearly Charts: Number of Games Comparison

Well it's a VGC list, so retail only. Otherwise PC would completely dominate every single year.
The userbase is far bigger, even older games can sell millions every year. Then think of games bundled with magazines. Humble Bundle sales. One of the biggest gaming markets, China, is completely PC centric and we have extremely limited data there.

It wasn't even a week ago when I told you I would be more specific, because one of my own posts didn't explicitly say one thing or another, and you misunderstood. Now the shoes on the other foot. Nothing implied that you meant new I.P. at all. You said I.P.s of this generation, meaning it included long standing franchises.

This isn't even *close* to the same thing, but ok....... I honestly don't know how "ip of this generation" is "nothing implying that you mean new ip". Like, there's only two ways you could interpret that, and I think the most common interpretation would be the correct one. Meaning new ip. Since you know ... games like Halo 5, Resident Evil,  these aren't ips of this generation. They're old ips. But I mean ... maybe you could interpret it the way you did.

If I were to start a thread titled "Castlevania was not an I.P. of the PS1 generation", everybody would call me out on it. Under your definition of the phrase, a gun wasn't a weapon of WWII, because the gun had existed in another form before WWII.

That's true. Too many $10 sales for old games. Not to mention VGC doesn't track used video game sales, which is a huge portion of the console market.

This anology is so ....

A gun is not equivalent to an IP ... a Gun is a general concept product, not a specific entity ...

Wow. I think you should never debate on VGC ever again, lol.

DAMM that PS4 is INSANE!

2018 is maybe the best games-year ever. At least for PS4 players. We need more life time for all the great games in the future.

I'm just looking at my collection across all of my consoles, and thinking that I'd need many more for all the games of the past!

Good comparisons, awesome to see PS4 breaking all records!

An I.P. isn't a specific entity either. Things don't have to be completely equivilant for analogies to work. For example: If you throw a cat off  a bridge (in a sack) it will drown like a dog. This analogy works because cats and dogs are both mammals that need oxygen to survive.

This is Living and for the Player : )

Update: I updated the 2017 numbers for the table. The graphs will be updated when 2017 is over.

Changes:

PS4: 54 -> 55
XOne: 21 ->23
3DS: 12 -> 14
NS: 7 -> 9
Wii U: 2 -> 1
PC: 1 -> 0
PS3: 1 -> 0

So not a lot of changes yet. The older consoles are down a little bit, while PS4, XOne and NS continue to do very well.
