Forums - Nintendo Discussion - L.A. Noire Switch Ver. to run 1080p docked, 720p handheld and more

Are the graphics themselves touched up over the PS3/360 release beyond just resolution? Because if it's the same assets as those systems, then the Switch shouldn't even be breaking a sweat to run it at 1080p.

NICE.... is this game actually good?

It's a very nice use of the GTA4 engine and adds more story than action, some very impressive plot points but... some of them are very graphic and I really can't picture anyone wanting to play this in public as there are cases where you need to inspect dead naked womens bodies.... and there is my worry for the sales of LA Noire on Switch, it's basically going to be one of the few games on the system which takes portable off the table as such you could go for a console version of it if you're going to be playing it at home anyway and the original is available so cheaply now it's a tough sell on Switch imo.

Actually, it's Team Bondi's in-house engine. RAGE is being used by every single Rockstar developed game since Table Tennis and most probably will be for newer games, with expected engine upgrades. That's why it doesn't have the iconic Euphoria animation transition system found in GTA IV, RDR and GTA V. But, technically, it's still very impressive for its time, especially the facial tech.

Impressive, I didnt think Switch could run a game with graphics like this in 1080p.

Its essentially a last gen game, but it still looks good by today's standards.

It's very in-line with Switch's hardware capabilities. I would expect most PS360 games to run at 1080p when docked and 720p undocked. Barring a few exceptions, of course.

The thing is there haven't been a lot of examples of Switch having these capabilities. Unless you simply look at Nintendo ports, but their games generally aren't as technically impressive as something like LA Noire.

True, but I would think that's down to Switch having fewer multiplatform games in general, since it's a relatively new system. We should see games like Skyrim and LA Noire setting the standard.

Nice can't wait to play this game. Never got a chance to before. Loving my switch so far. Zelda has been a blast just got my master link sword and now I'm going to beat the game. It's been fun but I can't spend 70 hours travelingexploring the world like other people can.

Well I don't think it being a new system is relevant. I mean Wii U launched with some pretty notable 7th gen games. So we saw out the gate what the Wii U could essentially do.

With Switch though, there just hasn't been a lot of content to directly compare with 7th gen platforms. LA Noire on Switch confirms the Switch handle 7th gen content with relative ease.

Aside from its facial mo-cap I wouldn't say LA Noire is technically impressive at all by Switch standards. It looks good by PS3/360 standards, but by Switch standards it has pretty low res textures and flat lighting.

Switch now has content that can show side by side its technical prowess over 7th gen consoles. I don't know how many times I gotta repeat myself.

Without that, we kinda just make assumptions.

While comparing the same game across both does give us an apples-to-apples example, I'd say it was clear even from launch that Switch was more capable hardware than PS3/360.

Right, but this really puts it in perspective. A game like Doom also shows limitations.

Games in practice is the best benchmark.
