I'm not trying to stop anything. Racism exists and is alive and well today. Which is a matter of fact, not really opinion. Because some people want to plug their ears and say "lalalala, racism is over" doesn't make it magically so.

In relevance to what PDP said, he said it in a unguarded moment, which indicates he's probably using the word comfortably in private. Also he uses the hard "er" connotation which even most black people do not use as that is a full on racial slur. And from that and several other incidents over the last few months, I'd say PDP is building quite a resume that is indictive of his character (or lack thereof to be more precise).

Saying that word in that context says something about him as a person.

wow, why aren't you trying to stop racism?

lets say pewdiepie is a racist, goes around saying racist things in private and is an all around "bad" person, what do you think should be done about him?

Because it's not really my job to stop people from being shitty people. Maybe their parents should've stepped up their game or maybe they themselves should take some responsibility for their weaknesses.

As for what will happen to him he will probably lose a good deal of his platform. The only value an "entertainer" has is from the corporate entities that back him and most corporations don't want to touch a "racist" with a 50 foot pole. It's not worth damaging their brand repuation. Simply put that is the price in 2017 for being a public figure and getting busted for saying racist terms, in PDP's case he's played with fire on this issue before, so no I don't particularly feel bad for the moron for finally getting burned. It's almost as if his subconcious was itching to get busted some how.

No one is entitled to be a public figure and no one put a gun to his head saying he had to do what he did. He did it, now he can deal with the consequences.

Everybody is at least a little racist prejudice, whether we want to admit it or not. Some are more open about it and some are better at hiding it. What we can do is learn from those words and actions by not replicating them and at least know why it's wrong.

ok if you take racism as negatively distinguishing between racial groups

is saying that a particular group can do something that another group can't, racist against the latter group?

for sure its not racist against the former group but it certainly would be against the latter i would think ( if you take racism to be negative discrimination based on race )

Well straight off the hop, it's just not a factual statement in reality.

Saying "X group of people can't do Y" has been proven wrong, over and over and over and over and over and over again.

Within any racial group you'll find people that can do pretty much any field of endeavor you want to put forth.

i'm reffering to you stating that white people shouldn't be able to use a word while black people should be able to...

"Because it's not really my job to stop people from being shitty people"

i thought that was your aim all along, so what is your aim then?

"It's almost as if his subconcious was itching to get busted some how. "

or more likely he knows how to pull the levers in the minds of people and uses it to his advantage, especially since people are becoming more irrational as time moves on (even though they think the opposite)

and i'm not his fan or follow him or anything but as far as i know pewdiepie now has more money than god, i'm pretty sure he's not really worried about losing a platform

No, but he likely stands to lose millions and millions of dollars now that he has tarnished his so-called "brand".

This is the entertainment equivalent of being a guy/girl who's been outed for having genital herpes. Yes, you can probably still find someone to date you, but good luck with that and welcome to the world of (much) slimmer pickings. Also good luck in getting those who've heard that you have herpes forgetting the fact that you have herpes, lol. So welcome to the world of entertainment herpes PDP. Enjoy.

Being Racial and Racist are also different things. Because someone says that: "blacks can say blank" doesn't make the statement racist. It IS racial, however, as it pertains to differentiating races. It would be Racist if it were used against another race (such as "black people can say 'blank' because I think white people are bad"). Similar to prejudice ("oh look, there's a fat person") vs discrimination ("I hate fat people and will hurt one if I see one").

Two different angles. Just a little perspective one can consider.

Yeah, I personally don't understand how people can't make that logical connection.

With non-white people you kind of have to know the background of the person to know if they are racist or not. With black people, it is much easier: they're black, you know there's not racism behind their speech. If you are in a multicultural city, non-blacks saying the word usually get the benefit of the doubt, I would say Pewdiepie falls into this category; but if you are say, the guy in the picture below, you will be assumed to be racist because that is the white nationalist culture primarily associated with racism - it is not like this doesn't/hasn't existed in Europe, but it is generally frowned on here (at least in the west, they are more racist in the East), while in the US they get to run the gubbermint:

It is fair to note that Pewdiepie is a Swede, they are probably the least most anti-semitic nation in the world aside from maybe Israel or New York City. So that thing before was really misconstrued, with media not giving him the benefit of the doubt, even though his intentions were clearly not antisemitic. But if he were say, Austrian, Czech, or Greek, then probably some real anti-Semitic tension there.

I describe myself as a little dose of toxic masculinity.

I don't get all the drama. Why are people freaking out over a word, just because it's considered to be a 'bad word'?

Edit: seems like there are over 200 posts in this thread. Maybe I should read these first.

Not everyone will discriminate against another race.....because it's another race. That's what racism is and not every human being will exhibit that. The term you're probably looking for is prejudice (which every one does have, as that falls back on the category of bias).

You're right. I used the wrong term.

I just want to say that your contributions to this thread have been A+

Imo based on how we are raised and the friends we keep...we all built up racial stereotypes in our heads and people keep furthering them... It is up to us to take off this values and ideas that have been ingrained into us by peers and media.

the most infamous stereotype I know is that all-black guys are hung...

Now that stereotype is widely held and to be honest people say its fine to say that as it is true or its a positive sterotype? Is it true Idk lol

But I think that is how people justify racial stereotypes and why they are so hard to get rid of.

That's PewDiePie's humor. He's said way more "pushing the line" jokes. For example, when he played Bayonetta 2 he made a joke about Rodon dressed as black Santa and "stealing the childrens gifts". Millions of people watched it but there was no outrage. Why? Because that one group of easily offended people didn't see it.

Nobody cared about his 'Jews should die' joke either, because it was obviously a joke and it was funny. But then suddenly a journalist wrote an article about it, and numerous people (who hadn't even seen the video) started ranting about him.

This rant makes even less sense, but apparently it's worse to say a bad word than to tell a group of people to die?
