The only thing I'd want them to do for Nintendo is become Nintendo's online partner and let them use whatever voodoo they have going for XBL. A Nintendo console with an online service as robust and reliable as XBL would be a dream come true.

WTF is Standard Oil?

Rockefeller's company that could buy three different planet Earths when it existed... He dissolved it rather than try to eviscerate the Federal Government...

There wouldn't be much benefit to nintnedo. Nintnedo is just being stubborn because they want to innovate and create alternatives to the norm. Nintnedo ips would be run into the ground if Microsoft had any influence on their development.

MS would not have influence on Nintendo's games but on their consoles and vice versa.

Apple and Nintendo makes a lot more sense in terms of brands. I can see that happen

Nintendo already teamed up with DeNA and they're doing pretty well because of DeNA's experience in mobile games. Apple is better at smartphone hardware not so much gaming.

Exactly, and add to that MS's exclusive games that would be the killer app in the gaming market.

Didn't Microsoft attempt to buy Nintendo way back in the day?

Anyway, it's not something I can see happening anytime soon. The two companies have very different styles when it comes to games, marketting, and the like. Though as it was mentioned - it could actually be a good partnership though in some repsects, as Microsoft is in good with the major third parties unlike Nintendo and have a much stronger presence in the UK market, where Nintendo doesn't thrive as well. Nintendo, meanwhile, could help MS immensely in Japan where MS is almost non existant. Then there's Nintendo's expertise in handhelds, vs Microsoft's in online gaming. It would also be nice to see Rare reunite with Nintendo, as they were always best when they were working with Nintendo, and have largely become a shell of their former selves ever since partnering with Microsoft.

In the scheme of things though, I'd prefer Nintendo remain as a separate and independent gaming entity than MS. For all their faults/weaknesses, there is still much that they get right when it comes to making games, and I do like some of that artistic integrity and overall quality could be compromised if they decided to partner w/ a major largely non-gaming corporation like Microsoft.

Instead of teaming up, MS could just sell the Xbox brand and it's IP's to Nintendo, of course, such a transaction would probably cost 10's of billions making it extremely unlikely, just as unlikely as any sort of team up between the two companies. But hey, it's a scenario that's fun to think about I suppose.

They could do that but nintnedo wouldn't buy their ips. They are a proud company that focus on the market they are going after. Micorsoft doesn't have ips in Nintendos league and quite frankly they are aiming elsewhere when it comes to the type of audience for the games they are pushing out are different. Should nintnedo branch out? Yes. The problem is that the are not.

You know, I'm a huge Nintendo fan, but it definitely wouldn't hurt my feelings to see Halo and Forza on Switch.  As you commented, Nintendo doesn't branch out a lot.  All the new IPs like ARMS feel very "Nintendo".  More variety would be nice.

I think a deep team-up of any type (closer together than than "put your software on our hardware, please") would cause all types of trouble.  As others have commented, Microsoft tends to run studios in to the ground.  Nintendo also tends to slowly kill off it's non Japanese studios, I haven't heard anything about NST in ages (maybe they're still doing the Minis games? meh.) and Retro suddenly isn't responsible for Metroid Prime anymore...IMO, Retro's track record should have them running both Metroid and DK and maybe a brand-new IP, too.

Not to mention the myriad other problems, like the mismatch on hardware ideals, cultural differences between the companies, etc.
