To those saying that people should be allowed to do dumb things and face the consequences. It's not that simple.

Even if they're dumb and get into trouble in NK, they're still American citizens. The State Department still has an obligation to try and get them back. That costs time, effort, and resources for State Department officials.

On top of that, North Korea is openly hostile to the US and its allies. You may have seen that they've been testing a lot of ICBMs lately, with varying degrees of success. Remember that between NK and the lower 48, there is Hawaii, as well as the US allies of Japan and South Korea. Not only are those nations big US allies, but the US has a military presence in both countries.

It is a dangerous time, and the US troops, US allies, and eventually, maybe even US civilians are in greater and greater danger as these missile tests progress.

Opening up US citizens to arrest and detention in North Korea is like giving them more chips to play with.

You know, normally I'd say this was an okay idea but the older you get, the less of a shit you give. If people aren't smart enough to know NOT to go to somewhere like North Korea without any ties/escorts and to break their laws...then oh well. Just don't go there, use common sense. There shouldn't be a bill that enforces common sense, it's a waste of time and legislature. Focus on the things you promised to people...oh yeah, those promises were broken too. Well...shit.

Why on earth would you want to travel to NK to begin with? Unless you have relatives over there.

Please excuse my (probally) poor grammar

This is probably the most sensible way to tackle NK. They don't care about foreign trade bans since the country is nearly an autarky, but foreign hard currency is something they sorely need.

What took the USA so long to ban that?

You know it deserves the GOTY.

If you have relatives in NK, chances are you are a North Korean refugee, in which case going back would be suicide x.x

That's BS. We should be allowed to visit any country we want.

So maybe Trump is not as bad as we thought.

A handheld gamer only (for now).

Considering what happened to that college kid, it's a wise move at least for the foreseeable future.
