Very curious as to what the most expensive games are that you've ever played or known about. You're probably thinking well 90 percent of games are the basic flat 60-bucks. But are they?

N64 games typically ran a good 70-bucks from my memory, then there were strange bundles like EarthBoud which were also like 75 bucks I think. Then there are games like Wii Fit that come with a board...etc. That's all I can think of though, I hope this thread doesn't dissapoint, really wondering if there are some neat surprises I've never known about.

I have the Ultimate Collector's Edition of Final Fantasy XV.

Also an unopened copy of "Mario is Missing" for the NES.

recall the N64 having a number of costly games, don't remember the amounts though.

Got Lylat wars day 1 which had a huge cardboard box and included the rumble pack,

Also towards the end of the machines life got DK64 complete with the expansion pack.

iirc my most expensive purchase was FE Fates Special Edition for around 80 buck. I rarely bought games at their original price since I mostly buying used or waiting for a sale.

A handheld gamer only (for now).

If we're excluding limited editions or games that came with hardware bundles like Guitar Hero / Rock Band, the most expensive games I ever bought brand-new were a couple of 3rd party N64 titles shortly after launch.  Star Wars Shadows of the Empire was $70 as was Cruis'n USA, compared to the $59.99 MSRP for 1st party titles like Mario 64, Pilotwings and Waverace 64.  I also remember the Mortal Kombat Trilogy retailing for $75 at many stores at the time.

Back in the early-mid 90s it was common for videogame prices to be all over the map for 16-bit and early 32/64-bit titles.  Check out this Toys R Us flyer of SNES games from late '93...

Yes, that's $70 a pop for both the original Mortal Kombat and Street Fighter II Turbo.  Just $20 cheaper than the core SNES.

You know I was always wondering why no one ever used the dollar sign for $ony, but then I realized they have no money so it would be pointless.

Subscription Fees, Advertising, Free to Play, Microtransactions, Loot Boxes, DLC.

A lot of games are more than $60, hell most of them are.

Nowadays a regular release in Germany is 70€ with minor special editions going up to 80-90€. Thank god for inflation or it would be considered expensive.

I don't mind the prices of games much. I don't buy many games a year. There have been plenty of anticipated games I would've easy paid a few hundreds for. Funny enough I'm very hesitant to buy even the best indie games for more than 10 bucks^^

If you demand respect or gratitude for your volunteer work, you're doing volunteering wrong.

I've never paid more than $60 directly for a game. I've never spent real money on a game that I paid for, aside from DLC. If we factor it all in, Destiny is the most expensive game I've every purchase. I bought the game at launch, plus all DLCs and expansions at launch. I think that puts me at $170, with sales tax bringing that to $180.

As for games with the highest MSRPs, I think the whole Neo Geo library is on top of that list.

I have paid 120 Euro for the CE of SWTOR when released.

Super Mario Bros when it came out was $40 something ... it's $100 in today's money. No collectors edition, no extras ... just the game.
