As an aside, it is quite hilarious to see crybabies' reaction to this. Undignified as ever

Im one of those I guess?

Honestly dont care about the series... and Im find with a woman doctor.

I can understand why some fans of the series, would react "undignified" as you put it.

This is like white washing / token black guy level, its a women just because.... which again I think is fine.

They just have to make it fit story wise.

It doesnt make sense for his latest morph to for no apparent reason to this time become a woman.

So the episode when he does morph into a woman, they need to explain why it happend he turned out as a woman this time.

You do know that for a character to be deemed a token we need to see the show first, right?

This appearently pivotal "morph explanation" is only a big deal in your head.

There's no need to overexplain the Doctor regenerating into a woman more than there was for him regenerating into a man.

Lorewise there wasn't anything preventing this from happening. The reason it didn't happen in the 60s or 70s or 80s is rather obvious. The Doctor regenerating always brings about a change in the personality of the doctor, a change in gender is rather minor compared to that. But people will complain. Of course. And they are allowed to, even if I don't see a problem with it.

It's much more important wether the writing is actually good. New Doctor Who has been a bit of a roller coaster in terms of writing quality.

I feel like the lore sometimes contradicts itself. Aren't regenerations supposed to be completely random? The 9th doctor even says before he regenerates that they never know what they're gonna end up with. But then there are also scenes such as where Peter Capaldi remembers his face from a previous episode with the 10th doctor and remembers why he "chose it", which would imply that they do have at least some sort of control over who they become?

So while it has always been said that the doctor can regenerate into anything it makes me wonder if they're going to try to give a reason for it that made him become a female this time where as he didn't during all his other regenerations or just go with "well we always said the doctor could become anything" that has been said and shown in the show before like with that one episode from series 9 where that one guy regenerated and come back as a woman.

I think the latter would be better since it doesn't need its own explanation, people who have been watching the show would already know that it was always possible. It doesn't need to be made a big deal that the doctor is all of a sudden a woman now since it has been said in the show that it's possible, just like it wasn't made a big deal that the master became a woman and was Missy, it was just the master being back which was the big surprise.

Yes, the lore isn't completely clear, but it's clear enough that we can know that it was possible for the Doctor to end up as a woman. I do agree that I hope they don't make a too big deal out of it (though I am sure it will be made notice of in the show sometimes - which you would also expect if this were to actually happen. Just like we are used to the doctor being male, so are the characters in the universe, but hopefully both they and us will get over it pretty quickly.)

I'm a few seasons behind on Dr. Who. Has it gotten any better since the first season of Capaldi's run?

I found the recent season was actually quite good and a big improvement especially the episode with the house.

Story wise it could be explained. Why not that he suddenly change to a chick? Clearly nothing prevented it from happening. Are you saying because it hasn't happened before it absolutely cannot happen ever?

Im saying that Time lords can "decide" what they end up looking like after a regeneration... atleast when it comes to which sex they are.

And the doctor as far as I know, has never been a chick.

They just need to explain why this time around he choose a differnt sex than he normally does, and then its all fine I guess.

You seem to be under the impression they'll just make the Doctor a chica without any explantion. C'mon, you know there'll be some explanation. Only thing you need worry about is if they explain it well or they do a shit job at it

Yeah, I think it's expected that they will acknowledge it and mention it every now and then since it is the first time he will have regenerated into a female and the characters in the show and the doctor will have to get used to it since they're so used to seeing him as a male obvously, but just as long as they're not constantly beating people over the head with it as if it's some big deal like "oh yeah and did we mention the doctor is female now!" for the 100th time since that would get really old and annoying really fast, especially since it's not a big deal or huge surprise, it's been known to be possible ever since the show started.

I for welcome new take, and if it sucks, it sucks. That is the brilliant thing about this franchise, it just goes on.

Great, the worse companion ever in my opinion mixed with some other female lead.
What's next, female link? How about Jane Bond?

Close enough :)

(yes, fully aware that a spinoff character in Hyrule Warriors isn't the same as a mainline game with a female Link)

In all seriousness I don't think I'd have a problem with a female Link, though I think it's a different scenario when your protagonists are entirely different people as opposed to one soul reforming over and over.

The old series was better.
