As far as sales vs. competitors, it already has. It's no long winning every month by default and lost Black Friday in the US. This is why Sony has brought the "we can't ignore Switch" thunder. They know what we don't.

I think PS5 is probably a year or at best two away from arrival.

So PS5 is coming next year? Interesting theory. I mean they just had their best year yet and the PS4 is selling very well but they’re going to announce a PS5 in February?

Depends.

- When or better yet If GTA6 comes out.

- In 2019 there should be legitimate rumblings of PS5, that should be a down year. But price matters.

- So when and if PS4 hits 149.99 and if ever hits 99.99

- when MS stops bothering with X1, should help sales right.

It lost black friday, but won November NPD and outsold Switch 2:1?

Also PS4s > Switches total worldwide sales according to quarterly reports.

Yes but in November 2015, it had no competition and won almost all three regions with ease. Its grip has slipped mightily since then. If you aligned sales between Switch and PS4 since Switch launched and looked at marketshare it's a vast slide for Sony compared to Wii U and PS4. So it's "peak" as far as year-to-year marketshare is far, far over.

The thread is about peak, as in number of units sold. Sony isn't gonna announce a PS5 next year because the Switch sells far more than Wii U.

Your logic is a bit ilogic. PS4 is about to have its best year ever in terms of sales, why would Sony care if the Switch sells better than the WiiU or if the XboxOneX helped MS push some extra boxes ? All that matters for Sony is that the PS4 is still selling like hotcakes 4 years after its launch and it looks more and more like it is gona end up with PS2like numbers by the end of its lifecycle, wich is just insane on this day and age.

Also if the PS4 has more ocmpetition now than in 2015 and it is still selling more than it did back then, thats even more amazing.

Are we basing this on the Adobe Report? Or do you have any source? The only official communication I've seem is Sony saying this was their biggest BF ever.

Sony seems to be strategically spreading their games next year, starting with SotC, God of War. Spring will be Detroit's time to shine, maybe around June-Summer: Spider-Man, and Fall will see Dreams and Days Gone. Then of course you have all the 3rd party exclusives in between with Ni no Kuni, Yakuza, Dissidia etc. And don't forget the impact of multiplat games people will associate with PS4 like MH World, Ace Combat 7, Far Cry 5 and the biggest of them all: RDR2.

PSVR momentum will continue next year.

As predicted the price cuts this holiday were temporary, but permanent price cuts are most likely coming in 2018

Anyone still doubting 2018 will be peak year?

Hmm, this all seems to me like games that sell to the established base instead of widen it. Not sure though, I think 2017 and 2018 will be close. And Japan hasn't peaked yet, Sony pushes a lot to make ground there.

3DS-FC: 4511-1768-7903 (Mii-Name: Mnementh), Nintendo-Network-ID: Mnementh, Switch: SW-7706-3819-9381 (Mnementh)

my greatest games: 2017, 2018, 2019, 2020, 2021

10 years greatest game event!

bets: [peak year] [+], [1], [2], [3], [4]

I guess hardware will probably be a bit lower next year and software a bit higher.

I think this year is peak, but 2018 and 2019 will still be very good for them.
