Forums - Nintendo - Mario Odyssey looks far more ambitious than the already ambitious Zelda BoTW

Mario is Nintendo's baby, you're not going to see that level of polish on any Nintendo game and that's why Mario always look better than any Nintendo franchise (visually speaking)

I agree! They treat Mario better than any other figure in gaming gets, and it's well deserved :D

Not entirely true on the visual part as I'd say Zelda and Metroid games often beat out Mario in that department and Zelda certainly matches Mario in polish, it's not even a bold prediction to say Metroid Prime 4 with out seeing a single thing of the game is likely to be the best looking game on Switch visually when it shows up.

"Seriously, realistic looking dinosaurs and humans that you can even control? That's incredible."

Shit, I'm sold, preordering 10 copies now. On a serious note, I'd say Zelda is a bit more ambitious. This is just my impression from what i've seen. Odyssey honestly just seems like Mario 64 on a grander and more seemless scale.

Yeah, on Gamecube for instance I'd say Metroid Prime 2 looked better than Mario Sunshine.

Given how amazing Prime 2 and 3 looked for their hardware, I certainly hope 4 follows suit and pushes the Switch to the limit. So far, I'd say Odyssey is the best looking Switch game yet shown.

What's good and exciting, is that Nintendo is trying new things with their games. Star Fox Zero, in my opinion, didn't turn out good, but Zelda was absolutely fantastic, and now I'm sure this Mario will blow our minds. I hope they keep doing this, specially in the next Metroid Prime. I love innovative Nintendo!
BTW I also love traditional Nintendo, so I'm also hoping to see Super Mario Galaxy 3 this gen.

Yeah as someone who was disappointed by how conservative their software was on Wii U, I'm very excited to see ambitious Nintendo back. Odyssey looks immeasurably more impressive than 3D World, and Breath of the Wild is in my book their best game since Mario Galaxy 1 a decade ago.

No its not. Mario games are actually awesome without being overrated They are more like the Studio Ghibli but with serious mainstream apeal

OT: Most deffinatly. It looks by far the most ambitious Mario title ever This is the game that will sell the Switch to me My god the last trailer looked jawdropping :-o

That's a great comparison. However, I'm not sure if many Americans knows what Studio Ghibli is, which is why I typically use Disney as a reference

Yeah, taught so The mainline Mario series can be compared with everything that is considered best in their respective domain

Vote the Mayor for Mayor!

It looks great but I wouldn't say its more ambition then BoTW.

Agreed, Breath of the Wild is a crazy awesome sandbox experience full of tens of thousands of triggers all throughout the world woven into the experience in an incredibly organic fashion. Not to mention the game is gigantic in scale, and almost seemless.

Mario Odyssey, if anything, looks more reigned in and restrained from the Super Mario Galaxies. The marketing for it is even nmore "this is more like stuff we have already put out, like Mario 64." Mechanics like acquiring and playing with abilities of different creatures in the game are not exactly new either, since Space Station Silicon Valley did it on N64, and Kirby has been doing it since NES and Gameboy.

In terms of sales, it will sell high, but only because it is more conventional and that's what sells in Mario: New Super Mario Bros and New Super Mario Bros Wii each sold 30 million due to their resemblance to the oldest Mario games.

I'm not saying Mario Oddyssey is bad, it looks fantastic (although very much on the easy side), but claiming the title is more ambitious than Zelda is wrong, and "far more ambitious" is far more wrong.

I describe myself as a little dose of toxic masculinity.

No it's not as ambitious as Zelda Botw, but it doesn't need to be to be great.

Mario and Zelda are two vastly different series, no need to compare them in any way.

As for Odissey, well, I don't know how to feel about this game, I want to play it, but 3D world was disappointing, and odissey just look and feel weird to me. I hope I'm wrong though.
