All of those are games were already revealed before, and only one of those was even mentioned in the actual Sony E3 conference so I don't know what your point is.

There was some other stuff that looked decent, and unlike a lot of the other conferences, I got a good sense of what each game would play like. Like Microsoft, Sony's conference probably didn't change anyone's mind on whether or not they should get a PS4 or use it as their main console. But, Sony came into E3 at a better position, so the status quo is fine for them. 4.5/10 |
This pretty much sums up my view.
Microsoft's conference was better than Sony's. But not by enough to overcome the significant mindshare that Sony had coming in to E3.
Microsoft needed to do big things and they didn't. Sony just needed to tread water and they did.
starcraft - Playing Games = FUN, Talking about Games = SERIOUS
Sony wins by default. The best of the worst. This E3 has been a let down from everyone.

Both of them were leaked beforehand.
It was the best of the conferences for me, but I suppose that isn't saying much. 2017 is a very in-between year for gaming. Lots of projects in development slated for 2018, and other projects too early in development to really give showtime at the moment that are likely to be announced either at PSX or E3 2018 for a 2019 release window.
Where Sony went right was that this was about the games. They spent an hour before talking about smaller announcements like the Knack 2 release date, Matterfall release date, Everybody's Golf, R&D chat, and where Sony is now with Playstation and its products. The actual press conference was a good run of trailers. They didn't spend time fluffing out the run time with lots of talking that is fairly unnecessary with a good trailer in place. There wasn't a lot new, but I appreciate the focus on VR without a terrible gimmicky display to show what we were getting. Lots of detail expansion on things we have had scant details on like Uncharted: Lost Legacy and God of War.
As well, we got our first look at Horizon DLC, a new Monster Hunter hitting Playstation for the first time in too long, a good look at what Detroit has become since the first trailer that had an android detective trying to talk down a suspect, a SotC remaster/borderline remake, and more. Let's not forget that stellar Days Gone gameplay trailer.
All in all, this was an excellent followup to much of what was just bare bone announcements at E3 2016. Seeing the promised Spiderman gameplay reveal was a solid finale, and 2018 is already looking strong after what has already been a stellar 2017.
I'd say this was a quality 8/10. It would be higher if more of the big exclusives were coming a touch sooner, but honestly, crowding 2017 any further would be a bit shortsighted. It's a valid play of the long game for release scheduling, and now I know there is a lot left for 2017 and several big hitters that will make 2018 a good year.
Now we just get to see what they have to bring at PSX, since they have started holding back at E3 to get what may be seen as smaller announcements and further out release announcements for that December conference.

6/10 , mainly for Shadow of The Colossus. I'm still waiting for an JRPG that would make me want to own a PS4.
+God of War looks great, I know some don't like the story being more prominent, but it's a lot more interesting than Kratos just shouting at everything
+Spiderman looks really sweet, pretty much what I expected combat wise, but the environmental interaction especially looks good
+Monster Hunter World looks interesting, I didn't enjoy MH on 3DS, but on a big screen with proper controls and a more western influence, I will give this a go. (kinda wish it was exclusive though)
+more Uncharted, that's fine, not particularly exciting (haven't even played 4 yet)
+Horizon DLC
+Days Gone is just about a positive. Looks like a 7.5/10 kind of game right now though, will look forward to hearing impressions from the show floor in the next few days
+SoTC remake, beautiful
+Detroit looks fine, prefer the other storyline with the detective, but this other arc has potential I guess
-no big, new games announcements
-VR still does nothing for me, but I understand they have to include it
-Still no Sucker Punch, is it time to worry?
I would give it a 5/10.
It seems a bit harsh, because they showed a lot of really good looking exclusives, but I am really looking for new AAA games at an event like this, and Sony didn't deliver. Perhaps this year they are paying the price for announcing so many things so early. Why have two Death Stranding story trailers last year when you could have had one here, why announce LoUII at PSX where no one expects that level of reveal when you could have had it now? Also, why did they do Crash Bandicoot, GT Sport, Knack II, Ni No Kuni, Final Fantasy Dissidia in the lead up week and pre show if they only had an hours worth of shit for the main show? PSX and next E3 should be great, but they fluffed this one.
Not even Nintendo can save this year's E3 in 25 minutes
I give Sony the edge over MS for exclusive games, but it wasnt great and both are leaning heavy on multiplats.
Sony and MS are making good on old announcments. New AAA exclusives next year I guess.
Sony should have talked about VR elsewhere. I dont think the E3 audience cares much.
MS got lucky, I thought Sony was going to crush them. But its more like Sony won by default.
