Forums - Nintendo - Does Switch really needs Pokemon this year!?

This. Are people sure Nintendo have enough games to sustain a good level of sales until 2019?

Sure, why not? 2018 could have Smash Bros, Fire Emblem, Animal Crossing, Kirby, Luigi's Mansion, Mario Party, 2D Mario/Mario Maker, whatever Retro Studio's is developing, etc.

These games along with a price cut and/or revision could give Switch another strong year in 2018 without Pokemon.

These are collorative...( By revision, you mean a more portable switch  for 199$, eh? )

Although, it would be interesting to see how Animal crossing would perfom in the time period that switch would  still be at 299$.

Yes, thats not unusual for 3rd parties, even for Sony, that they announce games few years in advance. But Nintendo is looking to have much less time between announcement and release, almost all games (actually I think all of them) that Nintendo announced in January event will be released this year.

Nintendo never announces games that early unless they are desperate. When the Wii U was selling so bad, they decided to announce games that weren't going to be released for years like Fire Emblem x SMT, Yarn Yoshi and Xenoblade.

So there's absolutely no reason for Nintendo to announce games that are releasing close relatively close to launch and games that didn't even start development at that moment. Then announce games that have been in development for several months or a year to make us hyped for games coming within a year, not another 2/3 years.

But fact is that Nintendo announced in January event only 2017. games, not 2018. and 2019. games. In that famous Nintendo Direct in January 2013. they were in panic and they showed all things they had in development even games we saw only few years later. So totally different things.

What are you talking about!? You do realize that all games Nintendo announced in January event will be released in 2017. not in 2/3 years. Only announced games from that January event that want be out in 2017. are few 3rd party games.

You clearly mixed Sony with Nintendo, Sony is that that announced games that want be out few years, but even Sony doesn't do that because they are "desperate", they just have different approach compared to Nintendo. Same approach like Sony have huge majority of 3rd parties also.

And why would Nintendo only announce third party games that are releasing late 2018 into 2019? Because they have nothing else in development for the period in between. Announcing games that have just started development (or is not even in development) is a terrible strategy that doesn't make any sense. It means the third party situation may be even worse than the Wii U.

No

It already has 3D mario, Zelda, Splatoon and Xenoblade in one single year plus a remaster of a Mario Kart. That's already one heck of a lineup. Plus there are even more, unmentioned games like ARMS, Fire Emblem Heroes or Snipperclips, not to forget some actual third party support and loads of indies.

Really, with all this, releasing a Pokemon (or something similarly big like a Smash title) this year would be pure overkill and only thin out the lineup for the following years. The Pokkén Remaster is already overkill for me, as it fills up a spot already taken by Fire Emblem Warriors (assuming Q3 2017 is still correct, of couse - which would then most likely be in late August to not overlap with Splatoon 2 or Pokkén, though it would miss Obon Week then)

This gives us a possible lineup for this year:

March: Zelda BotW
April: MK8 Deluxe
June: ARMS
July: Splatoon 2
August: Fire Emblem Warriors
September: Pokkén Tournament
October: Xenoblade 2
November: Super Mario Odyssey

Simply can't get much better than this from Nintendo

First you dont know when games will be released, second who cares about only few 3rd party games that will be 2018. and 2019. when huge majority of games announced in that January event is releasing in 2017. Third, those are only few 3rd party games, and 3rd party usually do things like those all the time, announcing games few years before launch. And last, we talked about Nintendo games, and Nintendo actually didn't ascend not single one their game that will be released in 2018. in that January event.

October ain't Q3 anymore, so this would be a bit too late for Fire Emblem Warriors.

Is there actually a release date for Mario&Rabbits? If not, one might Switch FEW with M&R to make Fire Emblem Warriors fit into Q3 again

nothing officially has been announced since Mario+Rabbids:KD really hasn't been announced yet if not for the screenshots. The leaked screenshots from a few weeks ago though mentioned an August/September 2017 release date.
