This wasn't the first time Sony reported MAU. They reported for fiscal year 2015, on March of 2016 when PSN had 60 million MAU. PSN from two years ago had more MAU than Microsoft has now. At best that piece of PR about XBL being the biggest gaming social network is intentionally padding the numbers, at worst its a flat out lie.

Steam is inarguably a bigger social gaming platform. Inarguably bigger network. It's literally bigger in every way. 

Your response are not of someone that has facts to back your argument. 

Steam is bigger interms of users for gaming. Thats it. Everything else is Live. Live is more than a gaming network. eg, Surface Pro Users,  Skpye users etc.

The facts are in the MS article where they based there claim off. The chart that shows multiple networks working under Xbox Live.

the press release literally stated gaming network specifically, tacking on non gaming shit is moving goalposts at its finest

You do know they said they're the biggest social gaming platform. Not platform? 

Ie, people playing games on Xbox Live and Windows store? People video chatting on skype isn't part of a gaming network.

Steam is awesome. I wonder how XBL makes far more revenue though. I guess it's just online play fees, console gamers being more willing to shell out DLC money, and there being many cheaper games on PC.

likely related to how they approach the same features

eg: name change: free first time then costs every other time, vs free as many times as you want, then theres the lack of a paid service model, once you own the game you can play it as much as you want online with no fees to worry about.

lastly is ads, steam only runs ads for games, no ads for anything that isnt already or soon to be, purchasable on their store
