Forums - Sales Discussion - Switch vs Ps4 - Who will win 2017 WW

Nintendo can win if they sell to the whole world like PS4 does. But Nintendo cannot beat PS4 if it sells in 60 countries and PS4 in 100. But PS4 will probably win this year because of their massive price advantage. Playstation for $200 is a great deal. Nintendo won’t be able to lower price until they sell at least 20 million units. So can nintendo win yes. But unlikely this year. Nintendo will sell at least 14 million units before March 31st 2018 and that’s huge for Nintendo.

No they "cant" win this year.

At this point its too late, and the differnce is too big.

10m Switch's to 17.2m PS4's..... gap is too big for switch to have any chance left.

Also alot of analysts though the Switch would be 199-249$ (its a tegra chip they got for cheap from nvidia).....

Nintendo is probably makeing a huge amount of profit on each sale of unit (unless they made a dumb design choice somewhere in it).

If they wanted to, they could have done a price cut, or launched it cheaper.

Agree its huge for Nitendo, to potentially outsell the WiiU so soon.

Well I guess now's a good as time for crow as any with the Switch finishing with roughly 12.5-13.5m and the PS4 with 20-21m, so here it all is in one convenient post.

Tryklon - "PS4 has absolutely no chance whatsoever of winning 2017 in sales."

Abronn627 - "Switch. PS4 will be in it's 4th holiday this year and software release won't matter much at this point."

Slade6Alpha - "If Switch was fully stocked, no contest Switch. PS4 gets the handout victory. " (selling over 20m is a handout!)

Slarvax - "I think it's gonna be closer than most are saying, but PS4 should win. I give them a 5 million difference at most. " (Switch will finish with around 12.5-13.5m, PS4 will finish with around 20-21m. A difference of 6.5-8.5m)

VideoGameAccountant - "Nintendo potentially selling 15-17 million this year (based on sales of the Wii and DS) and Sony not making their 18 million goal, I'd go with Switch. " (Wrong on both counts VideoGameAccountant)

Rolstoppable - "the sell-through numbers will likely fall into the ranges of 15-18m for the PS4 and 10-14m for Switch." (Not much to say, the predicted ranges are incredibly wide, PS4 sales still outperformed his expectations.)

AnmolRed - "Switch , especially if they announce Pokemon. " (I guess they did announce pokemon)

HyrulianScrolls - "Gonna say Switch does because I see the demand for it being massive this holiday"

Jumpin - "Switch, it's hot, the PS4 has peaked and is winding down. " (The peak year before was 17.6m, this year it's going to be 20-21m definitely not winding down.)

Slab_of_bacon - "It's a launch year for the Switch with some great titles. It will be close but it's hard for me to imagine the Playstation 4 keeping up with that"

Kristof81 - "I'm guessing Switch, but it's going to be close..."

VideoGameAccountant - "why should we think that Sony won't decline. The PS4 is in its fourth year, so we should expect some decline. Nintendo is real competition. With this in mind, why should we expect that Sony can keep its earlier sales volume up?" (Second post by him, he doesn't really live up to his name. PS4 sales will have increased roughly 16.5%, not close to decline.)

irstupid - "There is the new hot item, the Switch. Then there is the new Scorpio, Both should steal a console or two from the PS4 this holiday season. So expecting same sales from PS4 this year as last year is being dillusional." (Sales went up around 16.5% if Flat was delusional I don't know what you'd have said about that.)

I didnt know there was such a thread. Did anyone really think switch was gonna outsell ps4 worldwide this year? The ps4 had 2 month head start, even without it, i wouldve predicted ps4 to win easily

2 month head start for a 4 year old console doesn't mean anything when you are talking about something that happens to be a new console release. Launch months typically garner as uch as 1.5-2M sales worldwide in the launch month alone. That alone stands to make up for 2 months worth of (at the time) 3yr+ old PS4 sales.

Those that expected the NS to outsell the PS4 this year expected the PS4 to be down YOY. So basically they expected it to do like 15M in sales this year or 16M and figured the NS could sell that much in one year.

Funnily enough, stock didn't remain as an issue for the rest of this whole entire year. Not even in Japan so the excuse that Nintendo can't meet demand to beat the PS4 in total WW sales because of short supply gets thrown out the window ...

The switch is absolutely still supply constrained in Japan lol. Like seriously supply constrained. There were about 2 days after Christmas where it wasn’t but it’s already back to being constrained.

elsewhere it is not of course, though according to an insider on ERA (who has been there for years and is usually correct), switch had some minor stock issues in the US during the Christmas week.

either way ps4 smashed it this year. But I don’t think it’s because switch underperformed (it’s quite the opposite), but because PS4 massively outperformed most peoples expectations. I expected 17 million but here we are with 20 million looking most probable.

next year could be even better for PS4 but i expect a slight decline tbh, about 18 million. For switch, I predict 17 million :p

Yep... when reality is more like 13m switch's to 20m PS4's.

Maybe in 2018 the Switch can outsell the PS4? we need a "Who will win 2018 ww" thread :p'

next year "should" be closer between the Switch & PS4.

If only the Atari Box released this years. People wouldn't even remember the PS4 or Switch at this point.

If Nintendo could keep with the production it will be no contest for Switch but I don't think they can produce that many.

This is funny because on one of  the biggest sales week of the year BF there were bundles of switches lying around as the ps4 slim flew off the shelves.

Anyway 2017 turned out to be an easy victory for ps4.

When cooking the crow make sure to leave in the oven at 180 degrees for at least 3 hours. Don't want anyone getting food poisoning. Also best served with a nice salty mustard sauce.
