Switch is already below PS4 and Xbox One? That's not really good imo.

If Switch in March/April with shortages outsold PS4/Xone in Nov/Dec, that would not be good for PS4/Xone.

In fairness, X1 and PS4 were up against each other that holiday season. Still, Switch seems to be off to a great start.

Both previous consoles sold 80 million units.  There is clear enough fan seperation that a launch between them is uncompetitive.

But there are also customers who don't necessarily "take sides" in this. Surely they are a factor?

Very nice thread! Hope it will be kept up to date as the weeks go by.

Sony were really well prepared for the PS4 launch! Those first few weeks are incredible!

Actually the shortages for PS4/XOne in 2013 were huge, much bigger than Switch shortages now.
And PS4/XOne launched simultaneously so they were competing directly against each other unlike Switch which had no big launch competition.

dis gon b gud

True, but they released during the holiday season, the period of the year with by far the highest sales in the year. So of course they had bigger reserves in consoles for the launch than Nintendo had with their 2M consoles for the launch month

PS4 had huge shortages, XBO not so much.

XBO hit a baseline of around 60k within 8 weeks and averaged about 63k/week in the first 8 months of 2014.

For what I remember, the post holiday shortage wasn't that huge for the PS4, at least for us at EB in Canada. Third week of january and the average shipment was able to last 3 or 4 days. The shoppers waiting in line the morning disappeared during the same period. I still remember the Wii, where customers waited for hours in store every days for months, in cas we recevied something in our afternoon shipment. We never got this impression with the PS4, outside the holiday, but there's nothing wrong in that, Sony actually managed to target the demand for their platform and have been keeping the momentum since then. On the other hand, the Switch is currently pulling a Wii situation for us and the entire chain. If Nintendo can keep up with this momentum till Q4, things will get interesting this Christmas.

As for the XB1, the first week of 2014, we knew it will gather dust in the backstore...
