They don't deserve a Nintendo IP, yet.

No, but they SHOULD make a sequel (or someone should) to Donkey Kong 64. I LOVED that 3d action adventure, with dialogue, character development, etc! That game had 10x better of a story than Tropical Freeze did (as fun and pretty as TF was, the story was horrible).
I feel like Retro got the job done very well already. But since i'd like them to move on from DK, why not hand it over to Playtonic?

Team them up with Next Level Games and we might have winner.
Definitely not. I enjoy Yooka Laylee since there aren't a whole lot of other games like it, but it's a very flawed experience. The big problem is the level design. That happens to be the strong point of DKC particularly the Retro made ones.
A lot of these indie developers simply aren't very good. No thanks.
I'd be all for that. Yooka-Laylee is great, probably the most pure simple fun I have had since Jak and Daxter. I would really like a real successor to Donkey Kong Country and even more so Donkey Kong 64. If Nintendo won't do it, then I am all for spiritual successors.
It always boggles my mind why we have to have unnecessary complexity in games today. Stuff like Knack and Yooka-Laylee is great because it is just simple, enjoyable, and relaxing. It is why Jak and Daxter is my favorite of the Jak games, DKC 1&2 are my favorite in the series, and many more examples. Sometimes basic gameplay with well made, simple straight forward level design is the way to go. Get to complexe and you start making things niche. Niche is awesome, I love niche titles that are made just for me, but we need titles that are still simple enough for the casuals, children, and core gamers that can enjoy a relaxing break from stuff like Souls and Bloodborne.

Retro's DKC games are watered down compared to the original trilogy so even if true, even if Retro made good DKC games, Rare.. er... Playtonic, would do a better job.

You're complaining about the story in a Donkey Kong game. |
Yet I'm complimenting the story in another Donkey Kong game.
Since when did the plot/lore in Donkey Kong country games mattered at all?
I don't remember a thing about the plot, but I do remeber the game being fun to play.
