Nintendo has sold 60m more consoles than Sony since the launch of the PS1. |
Didn't they also release more systems?
Please excuse my (probally) poor grammar

Yes, they did. |
While that explains the gap because pn average a single Sony console sells more than a Nintendo console. When you only compare released home consoles the difference is pretty big, with both the GC and Wii U failing to move many systems. While Sony only fucked up with the Vita and in way lesser measure the PS3. Anyways Nintendo mainly thrives on the handheld market and Sony on the homeconsole market. Comparing them seems rather pointless since Handheld and homecnsole is about as useful as comparing Handheld and Mobile or PC and Homeconsoles they are all in their respective own market. At the end of the dat Nintendo will always move more systems in total and Sony will have a higher average amount of units sold/system ratio.
Please excuse my (probally) poor grammar
Very interesting thread Rol... I believe Nintendo is doing quite well, but for this year I also expect Sony to close the gap by selling more.

Some people will never come to terms with this. I'd like to see how these people view the Switch.
| RolStoppable said: UPDATE: October 31st, 2017 Both Sony and Nintendo have announced their latest shipment figures. Sony: 4.2m PS4s for the quarter, YTD of 7.5m. Nintendo turned the 0.38m deficit from last quarter into a lead of 0.25m. Furthermore, both companies made upwards adjustments to their projected figures for the full fiscal year. Sony: Expected to ship 19m PS4s, up by 1m. Nintendo's forecasts started with a deficit of 2m and are now 1m ahead of Sony, so currently the numbers are pointing towards a Nintendo win by a tiny margin after Sony's Vita is factored in. If the fiscal year ended as forecasted by both companies, this would qualify as virtual tie. Lastly, here's an updated snapshot of the poll. The previously mentioned caveats for VGC polls still apply.
A good 100 additional votes have been casted with a very similar distribution as before. The biggest change is for the option 'Nintendo (between 1-2m more), but even that is an increase by less than one percent point compared to three months ago. |
So why are you counting the 3DS with switch? This is not apple to apple comparison.
Check out your poll title, 3DS is not a console.
Sony wins, just look at last quarter difference. Not only that, Sony posted the best Q2 ever for PS4
Looks like I'll be right *pats self on back*.
Also, I expect more upset people to post here.

The Switch is (primarily) a high powered handheld and a low powered console, it's as simple as that.

The 3DS is a console. Also, this is an apple to apple comparison because the methodology is to use each company's fiscal years for hardware shipments. Now and back in the past. |
3DS is a handheld and not a console. I can only explain it in a way that you are a Nintndo fanboy and want them to win any way posssible, and thats why you are combining a handheld with a console. Sony will lead and continue to prevail, whether you like it or not.
Even the vendor spilits products when reporting shipments, and you decided to combine them in the way you like. Lets also combine the Xperia phones with Sony products cause I can still play games on phones.
Looks like it is going to be incredibly close. I think a Sony victory would require a permanent price cut on at least the Slim model, and perhaps the Pro too. I think one is coming if they are raising projections to 19M
I think the final quarter will be a Sony win if God of War is ready before the end of March, backed up by Monster Hunter World. There isn't any software on Nintendo systems in that period that is going to move hardware in any real way unless I'm forgetting something. Switch sales will be strong regardless, but 3DS sales won't be. Sales in this holiday season will probably decide things, with Mario and Pokemon and the Switch's first holiday against Sony's ability to prive more agressively, GT Sport and big third party tie-ins.
Looking to me like it will be so close as to entirely come down to whether or not the PS4 Slim gets a permanent price cut. If that conosle goes to $199 from late Novemebr onwards, I think Sony will come out on top. If not, Nintendo will win by 500k or so
