Forums - Sales - Why do YOU care about console sales?

It's fascinating to me that websites like this exist, where people argue and get excited over the amount of product a company sells in places on the other side of the world. Why aren't there sites like this for Microwave sales in the Ukraine, or spoon sales in Paraguay?

I'd like to get some perspective from the other posters here :D

(disclaimer - I like this site, so what I just wrote was a load of bollocks.)

Because every microwave brand can cook every food.
It's not the case for consoles.
Which ever console wins is sure to get the majority of the best titles for the remainder of its life as well as the most exclusives.
Whichever start to loose will find it harder and harder to get third parties exclusives.

So each of us want our console to win so we can get the best games

PS3-Xbox360 gap : 1.5 millions and going up in PS3 favor !

PS3-Wii gap : 20 millions and going down !

Sales matter only because you want to make sure that your investment, in whatever console you have is justified. Many people felt burned last generation if they owned XBOX or GC, because the PS2 had most {if not all} of the support from third parties. You want to make sure you'll get the most bang for your buck.

Ail is excatly right if you can afford only one console then it matters as if its the best selling it will get the most exclusives and this in turn normally leads to the best games, which is what everyone wants for there system.

+ 200 for Ail,

I just want the PS3 to erase the Xbox360 that u can get all the games.
Then I can sfely buy a PS3 and ENJOY !

and if the Xbox360 win, I will buy one.

It is just than Sony >>> MS for me :

so go PS3 !

3rd party exclusives are nearly always companies bought by the console manufacturer, especially this generation. How many big 3rd party exclusives have been announced this generation? MGS4 for the losing console?

Good question. I became interested because I was interested to see how well Nintendo's and Sony's gambles would pay off. They both took big risks this generation.

And now, this site is just like a crack habit. I can't give it up. Plus I get pretty bored at work sometimes....

The more you console loose the harder and more expansive it gets to buy them( because you're asking the game developer to forfeit a bigger share of the market).

Do you really think Microsoft would have been able to get Bioshock, Mass Effect, Gears of War, Ninja Gaiden 2 and others if the PS3 had 60% marketshare in the US at the time ? I kinda doubt it...

PS : I think it's still too early to call any console a looser as no console has yet experienced a drop in sales. We will start to know who is loosing when a console starts to show significant year over year sales decline....

Because gaming is my hobie , I like arguing and Im bored :P

Vote the Mayor for Mayor!

lets be honest here, its so you can see how well your console is doing and brag about its success, or make up reasons for its failure.

wii fanboys are bragging to everyone that theirs is the best, while PS360 owners are justifying their losing.
