Nintendo already tried to stick with the Wii concept with the Wii U. And we all know how it ended. This would be the same.

Btw it's way too early to make these threads. We still don't know if the Switch concept will be a success.

That is some of the most astoundingly poor reasoning I have seen on this site in a while and that's saying a lot.

For one, they stuck with the BRAND not the CONCEPT.  The Wii U is nothing like the Wii in its core design philosophy.  Which is probably part of the reason it failed to catch on with anyone.  Second of all, the issues of the Wii U go far beyond keeping the Wii brand and are in no way tied to the fact that it was another Wii system.  Branding, marketing, lack of strong exclusives early on, there were many, many problems and none of them have anything to do with them "sticking to the same concept."  In short, the bolded is a glowing example of post hoc ergo propter hoc
If the Switch is successful, it offers them plenty of potential moving forward.  Shoot, they could get 2 more generations out of this easily.

Sticking with anything 'forever' is most likely bad for business, so no.

Seems to be working for Sony and MS.

'Forever' is a long time. I don't think we're there quite yet.

Switch is much less oriented on having fad-based software drive market adoption. So I don't think pending its success that it would have the same type of fade the Wii brand did.

It's not contingent on an unreliable or wishy washy consumer base.

Zelda, Mario Odyessy, Pokemon, Splatoon 2, Dragon Quest XI, Monster Hunter, are what are going to drive Switch adoption, I think even third party IP like NBA2K will chip in ... not Wii Sports, Wii Fit, Mario & Sonic Olympics, Brain Training, or Nintendogs or even 1,2 Switch.

Gamers like the system. Even Playstation/XBox fans I hear from tell me they like the system. Being able to play console-type experiences anywhere is an appealling concept.

Forever is such a strong word, especially for concept that is yet to show if it's successful in long term.

That said, I think that streaming in somewhat near future and volumetric displays in not so distant future will change the nature of the industry.

Agreed, as long as Switch and future devices of it's kind continue to be succesful there's no reason to ever change from the concept, and unlike the Wii I don't think Switch will be particurly difficult to hit the same success again.

Unfortunate for me as I would like a dedicated home console, but Switch is likely the best thing for Nintendo.

Nintendo needs to restructure their third party relationship.. but even doing so as long as there are powerful hardware out there, and gamers (hype sheeps) buyin games on how good they look, many big third party publisher will skip switch..Its in gamers hand to show that switch is what they want and publishers will follow.

Nothing forever.

Why not check me out on youtube and help me on the way to 2k subs over at www.youtube.com/stormcloudlive

I'm in the camp that would like a more powerful dedicated home console. I also have gotten used to Nintendo systems being weaker than the competition. I am ok with the switch and have even used it in portable mode. By comparison i have played my 3DSXL only a few times and kind of regret that purchase. All this is to say I'm alright with the concept of the switch, I'll take the sacrifice in power for the option to occasionally take my game with me. I'm not bitter about a lack of power because I'm kind of used to it from Nintendo (hell if I really cared about power I'd game on PC).

I think it is way too early to call this system a success. I think it has a good chance but ... shit happens and Nintendo has not done themselves any favors when it comes to third parties or the gaming community at larges perception of Nintendo (i.e. kiddie console)

Well, it's quite obvious that Nintendo can't compete in the dedicated home console market after mobile gobbled up all the casuals, so if the Switch is a success, then I would say yes. Nintendo can have their own success in their own hybrid/HH market that's not exactly competing directly with the home consoles. I mean, they can still add little twists to the model. I don't think they will see anything larger than 3DS sales, but they don't need to to remain relevant.
