Forums - Nintendo - Nintendo Discontinues The NES Classic Edition

I don't really buy the piracy thing, it would be easy enough to update the firmware of newer units to prevent that particular hack as it's not particularily sophisticated.

Nintendo woke up to the value their back catalog has and realized it could be a sales tool on the Switch, so (hopefully) they are taking VC on Switch more seriously. Maybe we'll see something different than the drip-drip-drip service of the past and something more robust.

I think NES Mini on 1st place was only marketing tool, and now with Switch they dont want to have more than two consoles in sale.

Makes sense. They cant possibly make much money per unit sold on that thing.

I don't know, can't you get a rasberry pie for about 5$ if you get the cheapest model? And I think that includes a wiFi chip and possibly LAN, too. If the Rasberry pie can sell at 5$ at a profit, I bet Nintendo is making at least 20$+ per unit on the NES mini. It's not like the games they put on there actually still need to make their money back, either so Hardware cost and manufactoring, RnD, Shipping and retailer cut are the only factors going out of the price.

I dont know. People said it was as powerful as the WiiU, so it must have cost a bit to make.

What the hell should Ninty care about Piracy on the NES Mini? They are not losing anything because of it and the device can't do more than a smartphone.

Anyway, I got mine, all good for me. I would have really liked to get a second controller though. =/

Hmm...they're ramping up switch production, something has to give...and it isn't 3DS production...

Why? It ain't a Zero-Sum game.

Switch and NES Classic appeal to different audiences. And do you think Foxconn only accepts higher orders of Switch hardware under the condition of lowering or killing off the production of retro hardware?

Nintendo also probably realized they were leaving a lot of money on the table.

They could probably add a few more ROMs and/or package in a second controller and sell the thing for $99.99 and get more or less the same sales.

Why sell it for $30 less/unit.

So yeah I could see NES Mini+ and SNES Mini coming back this holiday maybe. Depends also if they think it will interfere with Switch.

Who said that? I heard 'more powerful than the 3ds', wich describes the rasberry pie as well btw, but as powerful as the wiiU?

Yeah, I remember people laughing about it.

Hey Nintendo, gonna do the same with the Switch too? Jesus Christ Nintendo makes some of the most horrible decisions out of any of the big 3 e~e

NES Mini is niche ($60) product of Nintendo and actually was mostly used like marketing tool, Switch is main product of company. Those things cant really compare.
