Forums - Nintendo - Why ARMS Could Be Nintendo's Next Big Hit

I am surprised they do not release a Wii Sports like game to take advntage of the motion controlers

My grammar errors are justified by the fact that I am a brazilian living in Brazil. I am also very stupid.

Interesting reading, I think ARMS definitely has the potential to become a big hit, the major argument I have against it is that Splatoon, while offering a different experience than usual, is still a Shooting game, the most popular genre by far this days, Fighting Games on the other hand are becoming less and less relevant this days meaning that ARMS will need that big WOW factor to become a success. Imho it's going to sell very well but I don't expect anything groundbreaking, 2/3M lifetime seems like a reasonable prediction

Fighting games are surging back in both sales and quanity. That said ARMS is basically SEGA's Virtual On. While it is a fighting game it's also a semi shooting game as like VO you have to take aim in an arena.

Definitely has the potential to be as popular as 1-2-Switch.

I won't buy it. Looks like it lacks a lot of content. Will probably play it for 2 or 3 rounds and never touch it again.

just gonna point out you haven't seen much of the game. More info will come then you can decide that.

Yes, I havn't seen much of the game, because Nintendo hasn't shown anything besides 5 characters and probably 6 weapons. I only saw one game mode and that was 1 vs 1. That's it.

This game shall release in spring 2017 and we know actually nothing else about it, or maybe there really isn't anything else about it. Just like 1-2-Switch. A small and really expensive techdemo. So far, that's my opinion of the game.

I think ARMS is the next step that motion controlled games required. It's not just taking old ideas and updating them with more precise input. Making a more precise Wii Sports didn't improve the original concept. Designing a game from the ground up with precision controls and utilizing the feedback of HD rumble, they have made a game that is a fairly large leap up in complexity, while maintaining the simplistic and intuitive ease that was Wii Sports. The problem with the Wii Motion+ was they just made less intuitive Wii Sports titles, and even Skyward Sword seemed to have a lot of issue, it wasn't the right sort of direction for that game.

ARMS is definitely a good pitch on how to take motion control games to the next level. I also have found the response to be surprisingly positive, and I think it will be big. I know I'm buying it.

I describe myself as a little dose of toxic masculinity.

They've gone completely silent on this game yet have been regularly promoting Mario Kart, Fire Emblem, and Splatoon, the latter of which presumably doesn't release until after ARMS. I find that strange, but hopefully it means nohing.

I relly dont see that strange, MK8D is launchig this month, and Splatoon2 is huge title espacily for Japanese market and they taking similar aprouch they done with 1st game, ARMS still doesnt has relase date outside Spring, I relly dont see Fire Emblem promotions. In any case, there is plenty of time for ARMS promtion, most likly after MK8D launch.

You're only highlighting exactly why it's strange. Mario Kart and Fire Emblem are launching soon just like ARMS, but it still lacks an exact date for a game releasing within two months. Splatoon 1 was promoted well before launch despite being an unproven new IP much like ARMS, so if they have similar faith in it you'd expect similar treatment. I think this either means nothing, that the game is delayed, that Nintendo doesn't believe in it, or that there really isn't much to the game.

MK8 is launching this month so make sense to have launch date, ARMS is Spring game that basicly means anuthing from March to June, and Nintendo usually don't have exact release date so early before launch. Nintendo is taking game after game and focus game after game (only Splatoon is here difrent) after MK8 is out they will start promoting ARMS. If you pay attention you will see that they just recently started promoting MK8D. Splatoon was totally different, it had test fires and seems that want be case with ARMS. I really don't see anything strange with ARMS, after April we will see start seeing more  promotions.

Two months is so early to you? I guess that explains the difference in views here, aswell as considering June a Spring month, but eh, you don't see anything strange, that's fine.

Like I wrote, MK8D just recently started to recive promotions, its obvious that Nintendo knows that Zelda BotW will be for quite time biggest system seller. Spring ends on 21. June (starts 20. March and ends on June 21.), so yes, June is also Spring month, actualy 2/3 of June is Spring, thats clear fact.

EDIT We having ND in two days and we most likely getting ARMS release date.
