Nintendo seems committed to supporting the 3DS through this year, even while Switch takes off.

However $200 for N3DS XL seems high - especially with Switch selling at $300.

$80 for the 2DS with a game bundled is a good value. But you could almost figure on cutting the price further and figure those customers could move over to Switch in the next year or two when Switch is sold at lower price.

Do you think Nintendo would have any benefit in cutting the price of 3DS/2DS this year? Even as a new Switch owner - I really feel like 3DS has some things to offer the Switch just doesn't have yet.

I predict NX launches in 2017 - not 2016

At this point, just leave as it is.There is no point in cutting the price(since the objective of that is to make people jump on the hardware for them to buy software) if they want people to buy Switches now.

Its better that, at this point in the 3DS life, to just maximize the profit they get at each unit, since the sales will be limited no matter what due to the hardware age.

My (locked) thread about how difficulty should be a decision for the developers, not the gamers.

If they were ever gonna price cut then it should of happened already, since a price cut without new game releases backing it up wont do a whole lot, and I doubt the 3DS will be getting much of anything next year. At this point it's probably not worth it since it'd probably only make a difference for a few months, then sales plummet hard in 2018.

I'd love a new3ds price cut for purely selfish reasons.

2ds is almost affordable to anyone, its like $80 plus a $40 game bundled

There is no way we're going to see a price-cut on the 2DS. That thing is crazy cheap and includes a game.

3DS would be maybe or more likely we'll see continued bundles and limited editions.

They might cut the price of the New 3DS XL to something like $150 closer to the holiday season or maybe early next year. I think Nintendo ideally wants to replace 3DS with Switch (or at least the Switch platform, maybe not the form factor we are seeing at launch), but they will probably keep the 3DS family around in some form just to play it safe until they reduce manufacturing costs for Switch (allowing them to make the price more accessible), get developers (both internally and to some degree externally) on board and push out more software, build a viable installbase, etc. The New 3DS and 2DS will essentially play the role that GBA SP & Micro, PS2 slim, PS3 super slim, Xbox 360 S, Wii Mini played at the beginning of the life of their successor, ie they were kept around because the hardware was profitable, there was still a good backlog of games (and a few knew ones), and they provided a certain degree of a safety net should the new platform not do as well as expected (when introducing the DS, Nintendo had a plan to continue the GB line if the DS did not catch on; I suspect they have a similar kind of strategy with 3DS with regards to Switch).

At least drop the n3DS XL to $200 CAD, yes

Not really necessary, but can't really say no to a price cut :p

3DS will have or better should have one last big push for Holiday 2017.

A price cut in March 2018 to be able to sell Ok for that fiscal year too.

Games should stop by September 2018.

Probably only one Nintendo game for that year! Super Mario Galaxy 3D!

Switch!!!
