Don't care about the score, will still buy this on the Switch and have a great time. It being like the old games from the past is exactly what I wished for.

Hmm. No time to actually read any reviews at the moment, but the excerpts sound like many reviewers weren't in the mood for a Rare collectathon. Only thing that concerns me as a backer is reports of derpy performance. Odd that Playtonic didn't work on the PS4 version, despite that being the one shown off the most.

Many of these websites have multiple reviewers, surely they could have found people in the mood for this style of game. Whether or not they enjoyed it... you can't just blame mood.

I've seen a few critics dislike the worlds being too big so that makes exploring tedious. The Gamespot reviewer said she basically slogged through it for about 20 hours just to reach the end, so maybe its also too long.

Wow. I guess the fiasco with the Nintendo fanbase and the JonTron controversy should have been warning signs.

I said in a previous thread that this game looked like garbage compared to Super Mario Odyssey, but I had no idea it would be this bad. And this is coming from someone who backed the project on Kickstarter.

Now that you mention JonTron... these reviews could be due to the alt right trolling.

Mario Odyssey is something different, maybe more like what Mario 64 and Sunshine in a larger scale.

Yooka Laylee sounds like its trying to be Banjo Kazooie 3. I've only completed Banjo N&B (the most under rated platformer ever).

Here's my question, is classic Banjo/Yooka Laylee style games too dated or is Yooka Laylee just a bad game?

Perhaps it's simply a bad game?

I don't think critics criticize games just for the sake of it- I think seeing this pattern of bad, hyped indie games is saying something.

Games like Shovel Knight and whatnot aren't 100% original, and yet they get good scores since the game stands out.

When you mentioned Odyssey, I don't think it really applies. Nintendo rarely has controversy surrounding games, and typically Mario games do fine.

I just don't understand how mighty 9 and yooka laylee can struggle with so many talented people behind it

Eh I'm sure if these same people reviewed MARIO 64 today, it would get a 6:10 or less as well.....

If this game truely is almost as good as the banjo games, it's a solid AAA beast for me

mM

I still love and enjoy Banjo Kazooie to this day, so I'm sure I'll still enjoy this game, and hopefully the performance issues will be fixed by the time I get it.

Wow, just watched some of the Gamexplain review. Forget the archaic design flaws, this thing hasn't been optimized for crap on consoles and is, in my opinion, an absolute crapshow on Xbone proportionate to how demanding it *should* be. Now I have little doubt they hit technical issues on Wii U, not because the game is demanding (seriously, just look at it), but due to plain incompetence on the technical side.

wow You are right, I saw that review and the framerate is horrible, specially for a platformer, also it looks like it lacks a lot of polish in some areas.

Probably it would be a good game if it wans't so obviously rushed, I don't understand why they didn't give it more time.

I think in a lot of cases games get bad when they move away from makes previous titles enjoyable.

For comparison sake, I played every Castlevania similar to SoTN because they kept doing the same thing and they were fun. That 3DS Castlevania was okay because it was sticking to a similar formula but it gets tedious due to some bad game mechanics and level design.

If Bloodstained simply gives the same gameplay those Metroidvania games, it will be good. But using a 3D engine and constant delays has me concerned they're aiming higher than they need to.

So "XBLA Fans" and "TheXBoxHub" gave it 100"
"Mono Xbox and Somos Xbox" gave it a 90.

Yeah I can see the HUGE disconnect now.

When's the last time Xbox got a proper 3D platformer?

Bet with PeH:

I win if Arms sells over 700 000 units worldwide by the end of 2017.

Bet with WagnerPaiva:

I win if Emmanuel Macron wins the french presidential election May 7th 2017.

Not surprised. I never was interested in this game, it looked very boring from the beginning imo.

Not sure what people expected to be honest. I love these old 3d platformers (including Banjo Kazooie) and a 7/10 is what I would've expected from this game, granted I didn't look much into it yet because I want to get surprised.

Heck, Croc is a game I still enjoy despite its very apparent flaws and I would give it a 6/10 nowadays. So Yooka Laylee scores better than that? Count me in then.
