Forums - Gaming - Will PSN be able to compete with Nintendo's subscription in Japan?

Japan has become a tiny fraction of Sony's global market, I don't think they care all that much, to be perfectly honest. The real question is whether Nintendo's service can compete with PSN or Xbox Live in the West, and that's also a question with much higher stakes for all parties involved.

Japan is not a huge market for Sony nowadays so they don't need to, they should just focus on the ROW.

Switch will murder the PS4 in Japan not because of it's online service but because it's a Nintendo console that is also a... HANDHELD. Sony's console can't do anything but sit under a TV and Japanese gamers on the whole don't want that anymore.

There have been handheld for a quite a while in Japan. The switch won't really change anything in this regard. People that want to buy home consoles will still buy ps4. And the ones that had only 3ds would likely upgrade to switch. That's all there is to it.

I saw this thread and I was trying to remember that meme. Then it occurred to me.
"Globally in America".

We seem to be getting a constant amount of "In Japan" threads. How will this sell in Japan, what will they do in Japan, who will sell better in Japan. Now this crazy one about subscription services.

Are we looking at the start of a new meme? "Globally in Japan"?

We don't even know what the price of the subscription will be or what it will offer yet you want to compare it Sony for what?

I wonder what Japans subscription list is like. This is what Asia's has been.

So if Japan subscription is anything like that - wow.

This shit right here!

considering all those games can be played on wii U or Mummy and daddy are idiots to buy them again and pay a subscription just to let their children play those game while going to school. Dude give Japan credit, they aren't idiots.

But the main thing is, the Switch is a home console too. It replaces both home and handheld consoles and that's where the PS4 is in trouble in Japan, especially in a market where the PS4 is only ahead of the Wii U by 1 million units. What might change is that people that want to buy home consoles will buy Nintendo Switch and people that want a handheld console will buy Nintendo Switch. Sony will still do well in Japan of course but's ovibously not their market of focus, while the Nintendo Switch concept is basically the perfect device for the Japan market.

Japanese console/handheld market is vanishing and becoming irrelevant. It'll be all mobile soon and a switch can't reverse the situation set in motion years ago. The only thing Sony needs there are the developers making games for them. Sony is a global brand and it does what global brands do best, dominate the global market.

But they still care about games like FF7 remastered and KH3 which are not likely to release on Switch. Also there is a growing intresting for Western games like the Witcher III and Horizon in Japan.

Please excuse my (probally) poor grammar

The better question would be if Nintendo's subscription could compete against PSN?

You fucked it up, that's not catchy. TheDrill said, "I don't mean globally world wide, I mean globally in the US."
