Forums - Nintendo - The story of 3 switch third-party games.

Maybe they compressed Undercover :)

Around the Network

Not interested in any of them, so I don't care.

If games are suddenly so expensive to produce on cartridges, then why are many third developers able to produce the game for the same price?

Sounds like BS and a way to grab extra money. Then, we will see the game fail as devs believe it is because no one wants the game (when in reality people don't want to play a bullshit port or pay $10 more for no good reason).

i suppose the carts costing more could explain it like back in the PS1/N64 era but why wouldnt the digital versions cost less?

Third parties suck and like to screw over Nintendo console owners. This has nothing to do with the manufacturing costs of Switch cards.

Then why do you think that Lego went with the 8gb cartridge and requires people to download 2/3 of the game as opposed to opting for a 20 gig cartridge if the cost doesn't matter?

This question has no validity since disk-based media also has downloads/installs and games that vary in price with mandatory installs as well.

I think this is more about an acceptable practice on two other consoles attempting to be passed on to the third console. I think if there is a way to cut a corner and make MORE money, developers and publishers would be stupid not to test the idea and see how it goes. It is a business decision, but it may not be the one you are attempting to imply.

As far as two other games costing ten dollars more, there could be other reasons (isn't one a download title?) like outsourcing development to an idependent developer and charging ten dollars more because that developer needs to get paid as well. Again, it would be business, but that does not mean it has to be the business direction you think it is. 3DS did not encounter these issues and it is... believe it or not... a cartridge based console.

Square Enid fit dragon quest heroes 1+2 on a 32 gigabyte card for 60$, no reason other 3rd parties can't.

I still feel it's more on an excuse to put a higher price tag on their games

If they don't think people will buy it as much on the Switch, they could increase the price to compensate
but you know what happens when prices are higher than other consoles

I can actually see the LEGO City setup becoming standard for Switch third party titles.

You get 8GB of the game to start with, the rest you go home and download. Should be enough to play the game for several hours while the rest downloads to your SD Card.

Here we go again, we already went over this when the eurogamer article came up.

Minecraft story mode, and Rime cost $10 more on the switch than anywhere else. *Sources at the bottom

With the quote from Rime "“We set prices for our products based on the costs of development and publishing for each specific platform.”

So one can assume that cost of the cartridge = higher cost of the game.

Lego city undercover is $60 across the Switch/Ps4/Xbox one. So no increased price there. It is 20 gigs on the Wii u, and 7 gigs on the Switch. Where did the missing 13 go? Rumors go (at least as far as a Reddit article) that the other 13 gigs have to be downloaded.

So as the story goes assuming this trend continues which would you prefer. A game costing $10 more (rime/Minecraft story mode) or the game being split across the cartridge and a download?

I don't know if that rumor is still floating around or some devs are using it as an excuse, but it certainly does not cost an extra $10 for a physical copy.

Either way, I prefer physical... heck, if you're uncertain of a game you'll probably be able to get it used for much less than it'll be available digital for quite some time.

Besides, I love physical games lol, I just like the idea of having the games permanently.
