In raw power Switch is closer to Wii U, but technically it's much closer to X1 (and maybe above X1 more modern tech/arhicture).

Well Switch did raise MK8 resolution from 720p to 1080p, or Fast RMX from 720p to 1080p with better visuals and frame rate. One game doesn't mean much.

More modern tech doesn't mean a lot if it doesn't have the power to really push beyond what Wii U is doing. Granted its doing Wii U content at higher resolutions. For example, if you bu a new low end card, it can do the modern effects but not particularly well. I expect a lot of Switch content to be in the realm of Wii U's capabilities.

Very curious to see Mario Odyssey, that should demonstrate what the hardware can really do. Even more so than Breath of the Wild.

Actually modern tech is very important because that basically means Switch can do almost everything like XB1 for instance but downgraded. You do realise that Wii U didnt not supported UE4 and most of other common engines on market, same like most common tools and APIs, and those are things that make huge difference compared to Wii U beacuse Switch suport all of them, and that's why we having devs saying that "Switch is light years ahead of Wii U".

Agree, I think that Mario Odyssey will be actualy first full Switch game, Zelda BotW, MK8, ARMS, Splatoon2 are Wii U ports or they using assets and graphics of already existed Wii U games. But fact that Switch runing MK8 at 1080p/60FPS thats one of best loking Nintendo game, and Fast RMX at 1080p/60fps with better visuals and frame rate thats one of best tehnicaly most advanced Wii U game, is pretty impresive.

Half of X1? Where did you read that? I can guarantee you that its nowhere near half s powerfull as the X2.

Maybe it has something like a 50% boost compared with the WiiU, but seeing how Zelda runs on it I think even that is pushing it a bit.

OT: F5 is back, good news

I referred to statement "Switch is performance wise between Wii U and Xbox One", I dont think that Switch is exatly half of X1.

50% boost compared to Wii U!? Switch has 3x more RAM for games than Wii U, CPU is much more modern and capable than Wii Us, Switch GPU is just buy numbers stronger around 2-2.5x than Wii U GPU without gains of new tech and architecture. So we are talking about 2-3x boost compared to Wii U, not 50%. If you look how XB1 pushed 1st its game hardly you could say that's so stronger than Xbox 360.

Well OK< so we have it @ ~ 2x more power (considering that it also has to work in handheld mode). But come on. You honestly cannot say that there werent games pushing the Xone at launch. Ryze was a mediocre title but it looked like nothing that was shown previous generation.

How does it not? Development of games that demand a lot of power will obviously be harder on a system with less power available to it.

The PS1 was easier to develop for eventhough it was weaker than N64. Power has nothing to do with ease of development.

N64 had the huge limitation of using cartridges. I have no recollection of developers having significant troubles with the other aspects of development. In fact being able to output better graphics than ps1 even when half-assing games was something that I remember N64 was complimented for.

A console doesn't necessarily need modern tech or capabilities to support an engine. I mean there are older video cards that can run UE4 games.

Hey, they got the CoD engine on Wii. It looks like shit but they did it.

Its not only 2x, its 2-3x more power, Switch even in handheld mode is stronger than Wii U, not to mention in docked mode with 60% higher GPU clocks.

I dont think that Ryse look much better than Halo 4 for instance. Talking about Switch, just look FAST RMX, and how actually huge difference is compared to Wii U version, and that's actually great because Switch is not full generation above Wii U if we talk about raw power. We still need to see Nintendo pushing hardware, most of this 1st Switch games are Wii U ports or reused assets and other parts of Wii U games, IMO 1st "real Switch game" will be Mario Odyssey.

Fact is that Wii U didnt supported for instance UE3 and UE4 and Switch support them.

You can ofcourse port game without engine support but thats means much more work for porting, so opposite of what devs talking about Switch thats very easy for developing and that is "light years ahead of Wii U".

Based on the many ports that came to N64 and their often superior performance, there isn't much proof N64 was difficult to develop for. But its evident they were struggling with storage space.

5th gen was also the first gen to really push 3D gaming, I bet all the machines were relatively difficult to work with. Developers obviously struggled with PS1 hardware early on as well.

Yeah, most deffinatly. Thats probably also the game that will make me buy a Switch

I believe the primary reason UE4 never came to PS360 and Wii U is because it wasn't needed. UE4 released when 7th gen was on the way out and Wii U was never relevant.

If UE4 came to 7th gen consoles and Wii U it would primarily be inferior visually. Look at UE3 titles on Vita, they scale back the graphics signficiantly but the games are intact.

But Wii U didnt supported even UE3 while PS360 supported it, and for instance Wii U even received Unity suport very late, while Switch support almost of available engines right of gate, and has very modern tools, APIs...all that make huge difrence compared to Wii U espacily in combination with hardware that is easier to work with.
