It has some technical issues, so all those 10/10s is suspicious.

The Switch version is the one that runs ok most of the time, and while the frame rate tests of Digital Foundry on the starting area may tell otherwise, keep in mind that it only happens, oddly enough, in the Great Plateau. Once you're properly in Hyrule it will run acceptably everywhere.

The Wii U version is the one that runs badly, but that isn't receiving all these reviews.

My bet with The_Liquid_Laser: I think the Switch won't surpass the PS2 as the best selling system of all time. If it does, I'll play a game of a list that The_Liquid_Laser will provide, I will have to play it for 50 hours or complete it, whatever comes first.

I doubt BotW can be topped but I would like to see other games try. I had to force myself to go to bed since it was getting near 6am, 7 hours of gaming later. That hasn't happened to me since Dark souls. Epic game. I didn't even get to do the dungeon I was planning to do, sidetracked for 7 hours and it was amazing.

The thing about BotW's open world is that I don't even think it's thematically possible for other open world games to replicate or surpass what it did. The biggest reason BotW's world is so amazing is because the whole world is treated like a collection of levels with real, unrealistic, level design rather than an actual, realistic open world.

Something like Red Dead or Assassin's Creed can't do that because it would look extremely stupid and out of character. That's not even counting the shrines and dungeons. The secret to Zelda's success is it's cartoon artstyle, because that allows players to suspend their disbelief when all of the random, wierd, completely unrelated stuff that happens in this game happens.

This entire thread is just one big facepalm lol Congrats everyone. I forgot sarcasm isn't easy to read on the internet.

GOTY contenders will be red dead redemption 2, horizon, zelda, mass effect andromeda, then there is nioh and nier that scored great but have not a single chance to win or be GOTY contenders ( for the game awards and other goty awards ).

In the end read dead will win , rockstar main games always win.

Which is a shame because The Last of Us deserved it a lot more than GTA V did back in 2013

Wait....I am curious but what is so revolutionary about BoTW? I have not played it yet because I am waiting to buy the Switch. I mean from the reviews and gameplay I have seen it looks AMAZING. And I can't wait to play it but why do you say it is revolutionary?

Also why would Super Mario Odyssey be the only  other serious contentder? Why would no other game be able to be one outside of it?

Twilight Princess and Skyward Sword were evolutionary. This is on another level. Others can explain better what makes it so good but for me, as far as singleplayer goes, I can only compare this to Mario 64, Half-Life 2 and OoT and it's higher than all of them. I'm already thinking about how I'm going to play on the second go and I've never replayed a 3D Zelda from start to finish.

I didn't think videogames could be jaw dropping anymore. They can.

I've no interest in Metroid or Pokemon but if BoTW is how an open world version would look then I'm all in.

Edit:Super Mario Odyssey is the only other possible contender IF Nintendo can do to 3D Mario what they did to 3D Zelda. If it's more of the same then it shouldn't be on the same list as BoTW.

LoZ is well and firmly out of OoT's shadow now. Any reviewer/gaming website that doesn't see the significance of this game isn't worth paying attention to.

The fact that it runs on so called last gen hardware or a portable should put the rest of the gaming industry to shame.

Lets dont go there. Every time a great game comes out for a system somebody has to go to militant-like extremes just to proove a point. There is and was a thriving gaming industry before and after BotW, no need to single it out as a mnmessiah amongst games, and there is mot deffinatly no need to trample on other peoples taste and choice

BTW: for your next post, as much as BotW has every chance to be this year's GOTY I would argue that its mostly an evolutionary not a revolutionary step.

If people hate Zelda, that's fine. They can score it as low as they like but denying how important this game is whether you like it or not isn't credible. The fact Nintendo upended Zelda without pissing fans off is an achievement in itself. To manage that and still get critical acclaim deserves it's own special award.

The thing is, it's is not as great as the media have made it out to be, What I've played so far feels like no mans sky more than Zelda with the trine trilogy blended into a 3d world. I hope the weapons last much longer soon. I can't binge on it since I don't own it but I'm getting the feeling that it is a bit overrated. Waaaay better than Skyward sword however I'm yet to be impressed after 8-10 hours. The best thing the game has going for it is the feels and ambience.

I spent the first two days with this game not knowing what all the fuss was about. It was clearly good and a welcome change but not much more than that.

Zelda nostalgia pretty much asures GoTYs, every Zelda game gets throngs of them regardless of deserving it or not. BotW is a great game but its has flaws ppl are just ignoring cause of the Zelda factor, for instance the durability system is imersion breaking so bad it is and the combat is just not up to par with almost any other action game out there. Also I dont get it, using chikens to attack an enemy and mounting a flaming boar (both of wich are rather ridiculous things to do) deserves a GoTy ? Why ?

The 'nostalgia' criticism is so dumb. Nostalgia for what? Twilight Princess is barely 10 years old and we've had Skyward Sword since then. Everything that made OoT/TP the games they are has been turned on it's head.

The durability system is not immersion breaking. You shouldn't be using powerful weapons to chop trees down, you should only be using legendary weapons against bosses. It adds to the immersion. I don't think King Arthur or Aragorn used their weapons to light campfires, did they? If you want your weapons to last longer, learn how to fight.

So you were being sarcastic in this thread? You came off as quite serious when responding to me.

You're a fan of Max Payne 3 judging by your Max Payne 3 avatar.

Out of curiosity, was your gaming experience ruined by Max Payne 3's less-than-steady framerate?

I'm going to guess no considering you rate it a perfect 10.

Difference is it isnt my JOB to review games. And for the record I didn't have framerate issues playing MP3. So theres that lol

It will definetly win GOTY awards but God of War, Red Dead Redemption, and Mario Odyssey are good contenders.

If that is what it takes then more of that please. Yet I doubt Ni No Kuni 2 will come close. Just cause has that emergent gameplay freedom too btw but Zelda found the right balance between freedom and level design / story.

It's nice to know you finally saw the light, alternine
