I mean from the reviews and gameplay I have seen it looks AMAZING. And I can't wait to play it but why do you say it is revolutionary? Also why would Super Mario Odyssey be the only other serious contentder? Why would no other game be able to be one outside of it? |
Twilight Princess and Skyward Sword were evolutionary. This is on another level. Others can explain better what makes it so good but for me, as far as singleplayer goes, I can only compare this to Mario 64, Half-Life 2 and OoT and it's higher than all of them. I'm already thinking about how I'm going to play on the second go and I've never replayed a 3D Zelda from start to finish.
I didn't think videogames could be jaw dropping anymore. They can.
I've no interest in Metroid or Pokemon but if BoTW is how an open world version would look then I'm all in.
Edit:Super Mario Odyssey is the only other possible contender IF Nintendo can do to 3D Mario what they did to 3D Zelda. If it's more of the same then it shouldn't be on the same list as BoTW.

Lets dont go there. Every time a great game comes out for a system somebody has to go to militant-like extremes just to proove a point. There is and was a thriving gaming industry before and after BotW, no need to single it out as a mnmessiah amongst games, and there is mot deffinatly no need to trample on other peoples taste and choice BTW: for your next post, as much as BotW has every chance to be this year's GOTY I would argue that its mostly an evolutionary not a revolutionary step. |
If people hate Zelda, that's fine. They can score it as low as they like but denying how important this game is whether you like it or not isn't credible. The fact Nintendo upended Zelda without pissing fans off is an achievement in itself. To manage that and still get critical acclaim deserves it's own special award.

I hope the weapons last much longer soon. I can't binge on it since I don't own it but I'm getting the feeling that it is a bit overrated. Waaaay better than Skyward sword however I'm yet to be impressed after 8-10 hours. The best thing the game has going for it is the feels and ambience. |
I spent the first two days with this game not knowing what all the fuss was about. It was clearly good and a welcome change but not much more than that.

BotW is a great game but its has flaws ppl are just ignoring cause of the Zelda factor, for instance the durability system is imersion breaking so bad it is and the combat is just not up to par with almost any other action game out there. Also I dont get it, using chikens to attack an enemy and mounting a flaming boar (both of wich are rather ridiculous things to do) deserves a GoTy ? Why ? |
The 'nostalgia' criticism is so dumb. Nostalgia for what? Twilight Princess is barely 10 years old and we've had Skyward Sword since then. Everything that made OoT/TP the games they are has been turned on it's head.
The durability system is not immersion breaking. You shouldn't be using powerful weapons to chop trees down, you should only be using legendary weapons against bosses. It adds to the immersion. I don't think King Arthur or Aragorn used their weapons to light campfires, did they? If you want your weapons to last longer, learn how to fight.
