Apparently you can't voice opinions or enjoy things without someone getting butthurt from your personal enjoyment. This is literally the most immersive open world game I have ever played and I put tons of hours into Skyrim. The game would get boring for me and I could only play it a couple of hours at a time before I had to take breaks. Fetch quests abound. Yes, Zelda has a few of those, but for the most part because of the freedom of movement and exploration in the game I have spent a lot of time doing just that - exploring. Zelda is a much more fun experience, and it makes me want to explore more, something that I did for awhile in Skyrim but really only because I wanted more powerful stuff, not because it was super duper fun. The leveling and quest for more and better items in Skyrim was a major reason that I put so many hours into it.

With Breath of the Wild, I really love the exploration. I love the puzzles, the random characters you meet along the way, searching for the little Korok leafs, climbing mountains just to see what's on the horizon, hunting, capturing and taming horses, finding the great fairy fountains, etc. It's all just so rewarding and cool to see, I don't feel like I am doing it just to be more powerful, or because it is the only way to progress in the game. I am doing it because I want to, and because this game makes it a fun and rewarding experience. ONION, you are RIGHT ON! Some people just can't accept when Nintendo does something great, even though they literally do it all of the freaking time with their games, they just assume there must be something wrong with the world when something positive comes from Nintendo.

My friend code is SW-5805-7908-2581, add me :)

Its funny... you talk about opinions, and how you can't voice yours without someone being buthurt about your said opinions and enjoyment. But fail to realize that by saying that you are refferring to someone elses opinion (whichfor the most part disagrees with yours) as that person being butt hurt instead o aknowleding that the person just has a different opinion to yours.

So basically, anyone that doesn't agree with your preferred opinion is being butt hurt?

You love the game, and I am not disputing why.... all I said is that most of te very mechanics described that may make some love it won't necesarily fit well with other games. And I went on to point out that "nintendo fans" (IMO) tend to hype anything nintendo related as if it were the best thing ever. And reading your post.... you can see why I think so.

But it's literally been reviewed as the best thing ever so I'm not sure how singling out a particular "fandom" does anything to prove a point. Reviewers are nowhere near all Nintendo fans, and just because it's Zelda doesn't mean they take it "easy" on them. Nor do I, I literally pretty much hated Skyward Sword because they overused the motion controls and it felt boring and repetitive after a few hours. This one, not so much, it has been amazing and I think I have already put more than 10 hours into it.

And just as a further note, I am a Nintendo fan, yes. But I primarily am an XBox gamer and am also a Microsoft fan, so again I don't really think that it makes any difference who I am a fan of, it makes a difference how good the game is. These aren't rose colored glasses I'm looking through, these are I freaking love this game glasses. My opinion and feelings are mine, I'm not swayed by hype, this game is ridiculously fun and offers a much different way of playing than any other open world game out there.

I agree , at the moment I'm doing general exploration so it's Ok ,was pleasantly surprised that when i stayed overnight at a stable the horse was outside waiting , when I decide to go to more rugged terrain The horse becomes glue, btw I ran into  a pinwheel on a hill with flying target like objects that explode , any idea if they have any purpose.

I encountered that too! Something happens when you shoot all the balloons.

I completed one of these last night, I didn't have enough arrows, and no boomerang, so I started throwing and retrieving my spear. It wound up at the bottom of the cliff on my last balloon pop with two guardians flying above it. I was terrified, but I flew down to retrieve it haha.

Not really, open world games these days are static and you can't alter the environment for new gameplay possibilities, the only recent game that does similar stuff like that is watch dogs 2 and is kinda limited. On breath of the wild you can push a rock from the beginning of the game all the way to the final boss (just an example) Yeah I can destroy a table on the witcher 3, but can I use that same table to kill enemies or to float on a river?

Those are all puzzle elements, they don't forever alter the enviorment. Trees go back after being cut down, so do plants and other items.

It doesn't make it diffrent then other open world games, it's just a specific gameplay feature, just like other games having magic/bases/classes/dialouge options and much more.

I'm not saying the game doesn't have any unique elements, it just doesn't blow away the open world concept.

The game trades structure and narrative for freedom, it does it well tough, but it is not the second coming of the messiah that ppl make it sound like it is. In reality it doesn't do anythign new it only does everything realy well. However it has some very glaring issues like a bland super simplistic combat system (its fun but laks a lot of depth), an atrocious inventory management system coupled with an horrible weapon durability system that has you navigating menus way more often than you should be, it also has very bland enemy design (as per Zelda tradition, some ppl will go nuts over this but lets face it, you fight big goblins, some skeleton like things, generic giant spiders and bats, some lizard like things, generic rock golems etc)

As mentioned before it lacks a strong engaging narrative, Im not sure why most open world games can't get this right, Witcher 3 did it perfectly, Horizon did it super well, you don't need to screw your narrative just to give ppl freedom, you can have both . The whole argument that you can just go beat the final boss and thats somehow a plus makes no sense, why the fck would I go and beat the final boss for no reason, just let ppl go around and ofering no structure isn't necessarely a plus, it is nice in the broad sense, but skiping the entire narrative makes no sense no mater how you look at it, its like reading the last page of a book before readin anything else, it just craps on the experience. Not to mention it severely limit what you can acomplish with the storytellin since you cna't have wide twists and turns or the whol thing just crumbles. Also its 2017 and Zelda still doesn't offer a proper character power progression system, this game could benefit imenselly fromm having a level up system and skill tress and whatnot.

If it weren't called Zelda wed be getting much more honest reviews and the game would be around the 85-90 meta range, it is a great game, it is nowhere near as godlike as ppl make it sound tough, both the press and the fans have this enormous mist of glamour regarding anything Zelda, they will always consider the games of this franchise the best thing in the world.

My favorite part of the game so far is the backstory of the two young girls in the first village. I wonder how many other such little stories can be found in the game, as characters seem to have a life and react to the environment.

I would not agree that the game trades structure and narrative for freedom, you get both and it is up to you. And it makes sense and is highly recommended to visit Hyrule Castle early in the game, there are even some backstories and quests about it.

The really strong backstory part is by far the best part of the game. There is so much depth to be uncovered in the daily NPC life.

I have been literally amazed at this game's abundance of free reign. I have stopped using a horse just so I can traverse the open world. Explore every detail. Try to climb, kill, chop, hit, bomb, burn anything... much like I did in the original zelda. Absolutely love it.

In the beginning I was wondering how I can get a horse to travel faster, after many hours a hint popped up in the loading screen. I thought I'll try it the next time I get a chance, but after I had a horse, it just seemed impractical most of the time. Susi isn't really fast and I have to leave her behind pretty much every time I spot something of interest. Makes no sense to go back over a mountain. Makes also little sense to pick up the horse from the station again because it's going to be abandoned again in no time.

But I think there could be something like a permanent horse that always comes to you if you whistle, provided you are on reasonable surface. I have no hurry to pursue this endeavor though. Finding shrines to get more stamina is a lot more desirable than horse riding.

I just use horses as a fast travel sub basically. As you said, its so easy to be riding a horse and be like "ooh I see somethign shiny" and go and investigate and then you are too far from our horse for whistle to work.

So only time i use horse is when I am 100% goal lining to somehwere and I prefer traveling to experience the world fersus fast travel.

I'm starting to feel Zelda BotW is special for more than just its massive world and amount of freedom. There's so many features and changes made that make this one really special. Being able to cook and make different stat boosting foods and potions is really a joy to do and really makes me feel like I'm preparing for a journey. You're able to use more weapons than just a sword, and there's many different types of weapons as well (I never thought I'd be able to use a spear in Zelda), shield boarding down hills is such a blast, the many ways you can approach a challenge makes each one exciting, whether it's killing monster camps or solving puzzles in shrines. Characters are much more interesting, lively and quirky (I love Prince Sidon, he's just... so great and charming)

I feel I can go on and on about all the little things in BotW. It's just.. so excellent.

hearts or stamina? I have stuck with hearts but .... I could be swayed.

Hearts seem more tempting because you quickly encounter enemies that hit hard, but they hit so hard that an extra heart container isn't going to be a real solution. Better armor has more benefits, although that's a lot harder to come by.

Stamina not only allows you to climb more, but it also extends the time you can glide from mountain tops. So there's a benefit in going up and down. The obvious benefit from going up is that you get a better view of your surroundings (and may find one or the other goodie), the obvious benefit from gliding is that it's faster than running and not limited to terrain like a horse. You can also swim farther with more stamina, so crossing rivers without finding a bridge becomes more feasible.

A stamina container doesn't extend your gauge much, but it starts paying off when you decide to explore more vertically. I get my containers in about a 2:1 ratio in favor of hearts. I don't think it's a good idea to stick exclusively with one over the other, but you have of course the freedom to do so.

I also just realized there is a way to exchange what you have.

The emergent gameplay is simply fantastic. Yesterday I threw an exploding barrel down a hill, the blast felled a tree, tree fell on a monster killing it. Threw another barrel down, turned the tree into firewood and ignited it, instant camp fire lol.

Not surprising, Nintendo doesn't develop games with super hd graphics but they're known for the small details.
